King Charles Extends Olive Branch to Harry and Meghan: Royal Residence Offer Ahead of Historic Family UK Return
King Charles III has reportedly extended an olive branch to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after years of estrangement within the royal family.
According to The Sun, the 77-year-old monarch has invited his son and daughter-in-law to stay at a royal residence during their planned visit to the UK next month.
The outlet also reported that Charles offered security arrangements for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are expected to travel with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The move follows Harry’s long-running battle over taxpayer-funded security.
The Sussexes lost their official security protection after stepping back from their royal duties and relocating to the United States in 2020, a decision that has remained a source of tension with the royal family.
Harry, 41, has previously said he did not “feel safe” returning to the UK, claiming his family had been subjected to “well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats.” Markle is biracial.
The couple’s departure from royal life—widely dubbed “Megxit”—created lasting friction within the monarchy. Tensions were further fueled by their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare.
However, following a private tea meeting with his father at the monarch’s London residence last September, Harry said he hoped to spend more time in his native England and bring his wife and children with him.
The family of four is expected to travel from California to the UK during the second week of July to attend a series of events ahead of the annual Invictus Games.
The reported “new conditions” are said to pave the way for “a safe return.”
“There is a hope they will both be able to find time in their schedules to catch up when Harry is in the UK,” a source told The Sun, adding that the father and son “speak regularly.”
Archie and Lilibet have not visited the UK since June 2022, while Markle’s most recent trip was three months later for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
It remains unclear whether the former actress, 44, and her father-in-law will meet during the upcoming visit.
Representatives for both King Charles and the Sussexes did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
