Prince William Reveals the Unexpected Hobby He Shares With Kate Middleton — and Why It Has Him ‘Yelling and Screaming’ Every Time

Prince William has revealed a surprisingly adventurous hobby he now enjoys with his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales — and his description of the experience is likely to make many people shiver.

During a visit to North Wales in November 2025, the Prince of Wales opened up about his growing enthusiasm for cold-water swimming, an activity that has been one of Kate Middleton’s favorite pastimes for years.

William made the revelation while visiting Colwyn Bay, where he met members of the Marine Conservation Society’s Youth Ocean Network as well as swimmers from the local Colwyn Bay Blue Tits cold-water swimming group. He explained that he had already tried cold-water dips in Scotland and had come to appreciate the experience.

The surprising part was how enthusiastically William described the activity.

Although plunging into extremely cold water may sound more like an ordeal than a relaxing hobby, William said he enjoys the feeling afterward. He also humorously acknowledged that getting into the water is a very different story, admitting that he does plenty of yelling and screaming when he first takes the plunge.

The revelation is particularly amusing because Kate was already an enthusiastic cold-water swimmer long before William apparently became a convert.

During a 2023 appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, Kate spoke openly about her love of swimming in cold water. She explained that she enjoys seeking out cold water even when the weather is dark and rainy, describing the colder temperatures as particularly appealing. William, by contrast, had previously regarded his wife’s enthusiasm as somewhat extreme, joking that she was “crazy” for voluntarily doing it.

His latest comments suggest that his attitude has changed considerably.

Rather than simply tolerating Kate’s unusual hobby, William now appears to have embraced it himself. His experiences in Scotland seem to have helped him discover why his wife enjoys the challenge — even if the initial shock of the cold still produces a very vocal reaction.

The shared interest also fits into a broader pattern in the Wales family’s lifestyle. William and Kate have consistently emphasized the importance of sport and outdoor activity in their family life. Their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, have been encouraged to participate in sports and spend time outdoors from a young age.

Kate has previously spoken about how much she enjoys being outside with her children, particularly through simple activities such as walking and playing together. The family’s enthusiasm for physical activity therefore appears to extend well beyond formal royal engagements.

There is also an interesting personal dimension to William’s change of heart. What began as something he apparently viewed as one of Kate’s more unusual obsessions has gradually become an activity they can enjoy together.

And while William may still scream his way into the water, his message is clear: Kate may have convinced him that cold-water swimming really does feel great afterward.
