Breakups don’t usually come with bouquets and blessings, but Kayla Nicole is rewriting that narrative.

During a recent episode of her Pre Game podcast, the media personality and model showed an unexpected level of grace and maturity when speaking about her ex-boyfriend Travis Kelce’s current relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Nicole and Kelce dated on and off for five years before parting ways in 2022. A year later, Swift stepped into the picture, making headlines when she cheered on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end at his September 2023 game against the Chicago Bears.

Since then, the couple’s relationship has captured the public’s imagination. And now, Nicole’s recent remarks are making waves for all the right reasons.

On her podcast, Nicole took a call from a listener looking for advice on how to move on after an ex starts dating someone new, and someone impressive. Rather than responding with bitterness, Nicole delivered a grounded and surprisingly supportive take.

“I want to say that it’s really beautiful that you have the capacity to acknowledge that his new girl is hot,” she said. “As a woman, something that we struggle with is admitting that the new girl might be popping. She might be the s***. She might be really hot and there’s no problem in admitting that.”

Using a sports analogy, Nicole added, “Say you play basketball and you’re in the playoffs and you lose in the second round, and the team that you lose to goes on to win the championship. All I’m saying is, if I’m gonna lose, I want to lose to the best team now.”

She encouraged her listener, and likely many women tuning in, to reframe heartbreak with dignity and perspective.

“It’s so much worse if the guy you loved goes and starts [dating] a dud. Now you look stupid, he looks stupid, we all look stupid,” Nicole said. “Kudos to you for acknowledging she’s hot. Give her her flowers. The reality is, them over there, whatever they’re doing is their business. They deserve love as much as you do.”

Nicole’s thoughtful words come at a time when Swift herself is celebrating a significant personal milestone. In a message to fans, Swift revealed she now owns her entire music catalog, having acquired the rights from Shamrock Capital. It’s a fitting coincidence that both women are choosing empowerment and kindness as their next chapter.
