Anthony Joshua’s Emotional First Words After Tragedy: “My Brother’s Keeper” – Heartfelt Post with Mum & Grieving Families Ahead of Friends’ Funeral.

Anthony Joshua has broken his silence following the heartbreaking car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, posting emotional images on Instagram with the caption “My Brother’s Keeper.”

The former heavyweight champion shared two poignant photos on January 4, 2026 – one showing him seated solemnly with his mother Yeta and grieving family members of the deceased, including women holding framed pictures of Ghami and Ayodele. The post, accompanied by the soulful track “Gangsta Lean,” resonated deeply with fans, symbolizing unwavering loyalty and brotherhood in the face of profound loss.

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua, Ghami, Ayodele, and another passenger collided with a stationary truck. Ghami, Joshua’s longtime strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, his personal trainer, were killed instantly. Joshua sustained minor injuries, was treated in hospital, and later visited a Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay respects before the bodies were repatriated to the UK.

Joshua attended the emotional funeral service at London Central Mosque on January 4 or 5, 2026 (reports vary slightly on the exact day), where large crowds gathered to mourn the two integral figures in his career. Floral tributes poured in, and the boxing community united in grief, with tributes from promoter Eddie Hearn and even past opponents highlighting the men’s loyalty and impact.

This marks Joshua’s first public update since the tragedy, a raw display of vulnerability from the usually resilient fighter. He has also pledged ongoing support to the families of his “brothers,” ensuring their legacies endure.

The boxing world continues to rally around Joshua as he processes this immense loss, reminding us that even champions face unimaginable pain. Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele will be deeply missed, but their influence on Joshua’s journey – from Olympic gold to world titles – lives on.
