Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticised after Netflix released a trailer of their latest project just minutes after the Princess of Wales’s latest health update video.

Kensington Palace released a new video of the Wales family on Monday, where Princess Kate opened up about her cancer journey and described the past nine months since her serious health issues began as “incredibly tough for us as a family”, also announcing that she will be returning to some more public duties after the completion of her cancer treatment.

A short while later, Netflix dropped the trailer for the Sussexes’s new show – POLO – by uploading it on social media. POLO is created by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield was critical of the timing of the new trailer’s release, telling GB News: “I understand why a lot of people do feel that way because we have seen Harry and Meghan’s oneupmanship in the past like when the Princess of Wales announced she’d attend Trooping the Colour and one of Meghan’s friends uploaded her dog biscuits on social media. There are definite examples where it feels like Harry and Meghan are trying to steal the spotlight, it’s unfortunate. It’s especially unfortunate when this is such a beautiful video.”

There is no evidence to suggest the timing of the Netflix trailer release was planned around the Princess of Wales’s health update and it is understood that the streaming giant is in charge of its own announcements. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment.
