Co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez has revealed that Lorna’s role will see major changes in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, which sets up how Mickey Haller is being replaced following his arrest. In the last moments of The Lincoln Lawyer’s season 3 finale, Mickey Haller was shockingly pulled over by a police officer and arrested upon finding the body of his client Sam Scales in the trunk of his car. It’s unknown who killed Sam, who put his body in Mickey’s trunk, and why, creating some major challenges and harsh realities for Mickey’s legal team and loved ones in season 4.
While Mickey is likely to be in jail when The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 arrives, getting him exonerated won’t be his friends’ sole focus – there’s still plenty of work to be done by the only other lawyer at his practice. The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 saw Lorna finally pass the bar and join Mickey’s team as a lawyer, even taking on Sam’s case before his death. In an interview with Screen Rant, The Lincoln Lawyer co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez gave some insight into how Lorna’s legal role will change following Mickey’s arrest, essentially positioning her as his replacement during season 4.
Lorna Is Taking Over Mickey’s Responsibilities & Helping On His Defense Team In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Lorna Will Be The New Mickey Around The Office
Now that she’s officially a lawyer, Lorna is situated as Mickey’s replacement in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Rodriguez revealed that Lorna will be tasked with helping to keep the practice afloat in Mickey’s absence, which means taking on more cases while working with existing clients. Considering Lorna just defended her first case in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, it’s likely that this will become very overwhelming for Lorna quite quickly in season 4.
The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 has yet to be officially renewed by Netflix.
Not only will Lorna be taking on Mickey’s role for smaller cases with clients, but Rodriguez revealed that Lorna will also be helping on Mickey’s defense team in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Mickey is going to be charged for Sam Scales’ murder, which puts him in the same place that so many of his clients have been in over the years. Lorna will have to work to be the new Mickey as she co-counsels his defense with him, and it’s unclear how much help she’ll get from Mickey’s romantic interests Andy and Maggie, who are both prosecutors.
Lorna Becoming The New Mickey Is A Huge Change From Her Heartwarming The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Story
Lorna’s Story Will Become A Lot Heavier In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Lorna finally passing the bar and becoming a lawyer provided one of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3’s most heartwarming subplots. Donning a pink blazer and cleverly working around the flawed system, Lorna went on a Legally Blonde-like journey as she took on her first case. However, the humorous and uplifting work by Lorna in season 3 will quickly grow into serious, high-stakes, overwhelming responsibilities and tasks being thrown upon her in season 4, as she’s essentially being thrown into the lion’s den without much help for her first major criminal defense case.
Lorna already barely had help from Mickey during the day-to-day criminal defense cases in season 3, so it’s going to be a big struggle to have the entire legal workload fall on her in season 4. Mickey can’t take on new clients while he’s in jail, so he’ll have to advise the largely inexperienced Lorna on finding new clients for the practice in his absence. With the levity of the case and the emotional and physical burdens of taking on so much responsibility, Lorna’s humorless court scenes will be a far cry from her more bubbly outlook in season 3.
Lorna’s New Role Will Introduce A Different Dynamic With Cisco In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Lorna & Cisco’s Work Relationship Will Face A New Test After Their Marriage
While the now-married couple Lorna and Cisco have been colleagues whose positions have largely been separated throughout The Lincoln Lawyer, that’s going to change in season 4. With Mickey gone, Lorna is essentially going to be Cisco’s boss, as she’ll be using his skills to track down names and investigate people of interest throughout Mickey’s case. Since Cisco and Lorna already work well together, it may not cause any issues with their relationship, but it still offers a different dynamic to explore as both of their work roles become more intense and elevated in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4.
With Bosch being cut from Netflix’s show, Cisco will also be given far more responsibilities as he doubles his workload.
Dailyn Rodriguez teased that both Lorna and Cisco’s roles will change with Mickey in jail during The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. While Lorna will assume Mickey’s responsibilities as the practice’s only acting lawyer, the stakes of Cisco’s job will increase as he tracks down who killed Sam Scales and is framing Mickey. In the book that The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 is based on, Michael Connelly’s The Law of Innocence, Cisco is the co-private investigator alongside Mickey’s brother, Harry Bosch. However, with Bosch being cut from Netflix’s show, Cisco will also be given far more responsibilities as he doubles his workload.
While Lorna and Cisco’s dynamic in The Lincoln Lawyer has largely prioritized their romantic relationship, their heightened roles in Mickey’s murder case means season 4 may put their romantic developments on the backburner while they focus on getting Mickey exonerated. Rather than using Lorna and Cisco’s scenes as entertaining breaks from the grave seriousness of Mickey’s murder cases, their season 4 moments will likely be overwhelmed by work-related discussions. Therefore, while Lorna and Cisco had still been planning to go on their honeymoon after The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, Mickey’s arrest makes that trip unlikely to happen anytime soon.
WARNING! Spoilers ahead for The Law of Innocence book, on which The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will be based!
How Long Will Mickey Be In Jail In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4?
Mickey Will Be Seen Behind Bars In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Mickey is arrested by a police officer in the final moments of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, but the episode doesn’t show him incarcerated quite yet. However, the showrunners have confirmed that Mickey will be put in jail in season 4, which follows the outline of the events from The Law of Innocence book story. In the novel, the judge sets Mickey’s bail at $5 million, but since he’s unable to pay that steep fee, he has to stay in jail for the entire case.

While Lorna handles the case from the outside, Mickey will work on his defense entirely from behind bars throughout The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Therefore, outside the times that the show depicts him in court, Mickey will be seen in jail for several months until he’s exonerated for Sam Scales’ murder. Since the series’ cases are usually decided in the season finales, Mickey likely won’t be seen outside of jail again until The Lincoln Lawyer‘s season 4 finale.
