Review: Virgin River Season 6, Episode 6 ‘Ghosts’

Virgin River Season 6 Episode 6

Virgin River Season 6, Episode 6 ‘Ghosts’ is about confronting the ghosts of your past and figuring out which ones you should carry with you forward and which ones you need to let go of. For Mel, that means understanding that she can always keep and honor Mark in some ways, but in others—like the ring she didn’t want to give back—she can finally let go. For Jack, it’s about facing his ex-wife and examining the person he once was, the decision he once made to enlist, and what that means for the person he is today.

Jack’s journey isn’t over, though. He still has to realize that he can carry both the pain and the anger and the sense of helplessness from what he experienced and also a sense of pride for what he accomplished. That he can be proud of the man he is and the man he was trying to be, without that meaning he is proud of the pain—any part of it. And once he does that, Jack might, perhaps, be able to accept himself for who he truly is, and love all of himself, just as Mel does.

YOU GOTTA LOVE VIRGIN RIVER

Virgin River Season 6, Episode 6 ‘Ghosts’ makes it clear that this big issue between Doc and Everett is actually about Doc’s guilt and Everett’s guilt and nothing big even happened between them. The episode doesn’t give us details, not yet, but it seems like Doc blames Everett for the fact that he had to go tend to him one particular day, which meant he couldn’t be around when a little boy—Jordan—needed him. And even if that was Everett’s fault due to recklessness, that doesn’t mean Jordan’s death is on Everett or Doc.

Instead, this is just one of those typical Virgin River instances of making the thing much bigger than it really is. It could truly have been fixed ages ago if these two men ever talked to one another. But if I’m being honest, I’m not even upset about it. This is what the show is and if Everett is a character that’s going to stick around, the only way to make that would is to make it so he didn’t actually do anything unforgivable. We weren’t going to accept Doc doing anything unforgivable either. So their entire fight had to be 90% miscommunication and 10% the two of them just being too stubborn to hash it out, which seems to be exactly what it is about.

Ah, never change Virgin River. Never change.

BRADY AND LARK

Virgin River Season 6

There was nothing else for Brady to do but break up with Lark, but it felt like for a moment there, he doubted. He wondered if, perhaps, he could have built something with her and Hazel. If perhaps, despite what he feels for Brie, he’d found a family and then had it ripped from him. And I actually believe Lark in that her feelings for Brady are true, it’s all just coming a bit too late for Brady. If she’d been the one to confess instead of Brady having to hear it from someone else, maybe. But she wasn’t. She kept trying to hide it even though she had many opportunities to come clean.

For Brady going forward, I’m not sure he knows what he wants. Sure, he loves Brie, but she’s a mess. He’s a mess. They can’t build anything together on a foundation of lies. With Lark, perhaps Brady could have built something. The question is, of course, does he even want to try to let go of Brie, fully? Because he’d have to do that, truly commit, before he could ever truly try with Lark again. And even if he does want that, will Brie just… let him go?

Things I think I think:

The Mel and Jack in the beginning of this episode is top tier.
That shower scene? A+
When was the last time Charmaine slept?
Not awkward at all, Brie and Brady. Not awkward at all.
Denny, talk to Lizzie.
Oh, lovely, of course, Cameron is here just as Muriel walks in.
Kaia seeing right through Brady was amazing, I love her so much.
Muriel would get the call when she’s with Cameron.
LOL at the condition for taking Sugar being that Hope has to say she’s sorry. We can’t deny that means her ex knows her well.
Give Muriel a hug!
“I could really use a friend.”
Mike and Brie and Brady and Kaia at the bar was comedy gold. Poor Preacher was the only one acting normal.
Jack and his ex was nicer than I expected.
Lark, you deserved that. You did.
“Just because someone isn’t family anymore doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a place in your heart.”
Denny and Lizzie need to stop and listen to each other.
We are going to get to Jack talking to Mel about his issues with the military, right?
Who is Jordan and why does Doc feel responsible for his death? Is this who he said had died because of Everett? Did he have to go check on Everett and that’s why this boy died?
Hope and Vernon have become such goals.
Mel and Jack this season are perfection, truly.
Oh, Calvin, you again. I did not miss you.
