The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 was mostly aligned with the events and plots of the second book. Like the book, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2’s ending showed Belly and Jeremiah finally getting together. However, that doesn’t mean the relationship is going to have an easy ride going forward. Not only does book 3 have several shocking twists and turns, but it may also change the way some fans feel about certain characters and relationships. It’ll be interesting to see how the show will adapt these particular storylines going forward and how closely the show will align with book three.
10. The Summer I Turned Pretty Book 3 Has A 2-Year Time Jump
The gap works well with the book series
The 2023 WGA and SAG strikes interrupted production for a lot of shows and movies as union members fought for fair wages and the use of AI. That means that The Summer I Turned Pretty also experienced a delay in production, even if any scripts for the season were already written. Luckily, this works well with the book series, as the third book has a two-year time jump.
9. Belly Attends Finch University With Jeremiah
The perfect scenario for her and Jeremiah’s relationship
In the book and in the television series, Jeremiah and Belly help Conrad to pass his final exams at Brown University. That’s not the only college setting in the series though. In The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2, Jeremiah also takes Belly to the Finch University campus, where he’ll be attending the following year. Her visit and her relationship with Jeremiah help to influence Belly’s ultimate decision on picking a university.
It will cause plenty of drama for the two of them
In book three, Belly also attends Finch (as does her best friend, Taylor), and it seems like the perfect scenario for her and Jeremiah’s relationship. Unfortunately, Belly and Jeremiah do not have the picture-perfect relationship in college that they intended when they started dating. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the writers will adapt this as there’s no doubt it will cause plenty of drama for the two of them.
8. Belly & Conrad Haven’t Spoken In Two Years
Old feelings arise again after they cross paths
The only exception was when they accidentally ran into each other at the Cousins Beach house at Christmastime. It’s pretty awkward when they have to be around each other while Belly is staying at the beach house in The Summer I Turned Pretty’s book three. Unsurprisingly, old feelings between Belly and Conrad arise again after they cross paths, reigniting the triangle again and creating some tense drama for the main characters.
7. Jeremiah Cheats On Belly
One of the biggest twists of all the storylines
Jeremiah hooks up with a sorority girl named Lacie Barone, and Belly is crushed when she finds out that Jeremiah was with someone else while she remained loyal. It’s one of the biggest twists of all the storylines in the book, so there’s a huge chance the writers will include it in season 3. Belly’s relationships with both boys are seen as equally important to her, so for one of them to be unfaithful to her after she chooses them makes for maximum drama.
6. Belly & Jeremiah Get Engaged
He thinks it shows how serious he is about their relationship
Belly ends up dealing with all the wedding planning on her own as she and Jeremiah struggle to find an apartment together. They never truly seem to be on even ground when things get serious. It becomes evident their relationship is falling apart, which only worsens as she and Conrad begin spending more time together. Jeremiah’s jealousy of his brother and his knowing that Belly truly loves Conrad creates a rift in their relationship that they can’t really come back from.
5. Belly & Laurel Have A Falling Out
Conrad encourages their reunion
Sadly, the two have a falling out because Laurel believes Belly and Jeremiah are too young to get engaged. Laurel won’t give Belly her blessing for the wedding, so Belly leaves home to stay at the Cousins Beach house. However, the two patch things up when Conrad meets up with Laurel and encourages their reunion. This leads Laurel to attend Belly’s bridal shower, bringing about a heartwarming reunion.
4. Jeremiah & Conrad’s Complicated Relationship Worsens
Jeremiah can’t hide his jealousy
Throughout The Summer I Turned Pretty books one and two and in the Amazon series, Jeremiah deals with jealousy toward his brother. In season 1, Jeremiah catches Belly and Conrad about to kiss, so he sets off fireworks in their direction to distract them. The tension between them worsens when Jeremiah finds out Conrad knew their mother, Susannah, had cancer but didn’t tell him. This causes him to punch Conrad in the face at the debutante ball.
3. Belly Studies Abroad In Spain
3,000 miles away from the Cousins Beach house
After Belly is unable to tell Jeremiah she doesn’t have any feelings for Conrad anymore, they call off their marriage. That happens in the middle of Belly attending university, so she still has to make it through two more years of school after being confused about her feelings for Conrad and having her heartbroken by Jeremiah.
2. Conrad Wins Belly Back With Love Letters
A tangible reason to favor Conrad over Jeremiah
This leads to Conrad and Belly regularly writing to each other, strengthening their bond once again. The love letters prove Conrad is serious about his everlasting love for Belly, and her response validates that despite what she’s said, she still has feelings for him too. This idea from Jenny Han is a much more personal touch than having the two text message or exchange emails, and it gives the reader a tangible reason to favor Conrad over Jeremiah at this point in the story.
1. Belly & Conrad Get Married
After about a year of dating
Conrad attends Belly’s college graduation (that’s over a year after him penning all those love letters to her), which brings them back together and jumpstarts their second relationship. After about a year of dating, Conrad proposes to Belly, and the book’s epilogue sequences their wedding. It’s unclear how closely The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will follow book three, but hints from the first two seasons suggest Belly and Conrad will end up together despite all of the drama between them, just like the book series.
