Kevin Feige Reportedly in Talks with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead to Direct Avengers 5.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe aka the MCU is getting ready for what is supposed to be one of the biggest comic book events of all time, Avengers: Secret Wars. But before it, to set the stage for the enticing event to take place in Avengers 5, which was previously titled ‘The Kang Dynasty’.
Seeing the ‘success’ of recent MCU movies and projects, Marvel Studios has undeniably a lot of pressure to get things done right. While Deadpool & Wolverine is anticipated to be ‘MCU’s Savior’, it seems Kevin Feige is taking appropriate measures in bringing back two iconic Marvel directors to direct the upcoming Avengers 5.
Kevin Feige Reportedly Wants to Bring Back Two Iconic MCU Directors
The MCU lately has been struggling with underperforming projects and ‘superhero fatigue’. While fans mostly allege it is the degraded quality of recent Marvel projects that has kept them away, others believe Marvel simply has lost its magic. While it might be too big of a franchise to fail, Marvel boss Kevin Feige seems to be doing his best to get things done right.
While greenlighting Deadpool & Wolverine was certainly a step in the right direction, Feige is also apparently taking the right steps when it comes to the upcoming Avengers 5. Part of the much anticipated Multiversal Saga, similar to Infinity War and Endgame, the movie was supposed to be helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton.
But since the director left the project last year to focus on other projects (via Deadline) a search for a new director has been going on. As was previously reported by scooper DanielRPK Moon Knight and Loki directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are said to be in talks with Feige about directing the upcoming Avengers 5 (via MyTimeToShineHello).
The brilliant directors have contributed to several Marvel series till now, including the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again (via The Hollywood Reporter). Known for the extraordinary and acclaimed season two of Loki, Feige might just be making the best decision if he does manage to get them on board for Avengers 5.
Loki Duo Can Save the MCU by Directing Avengers 5
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead might not have as vast of experience or a huge number of filmography, but they sure have proven themselves with the way they helmed season 2 of Loki. Not only has the series received wide acclaim from fans and critics alike, but it is also said to be one of the best MCU projects of all time.
With Avengers 5 being deeply instrumental in setting up Secret Wars and finishing up the Multiversal Saga, Benson and Moorhead seem to be the perfect choice among the many directors previously allegedly considered for the position. When the rumor of the Loki duo being eyed by Kevin Feige to direct Avengers 5 went viral, even fans reacted positively to the news:
While this should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, fans sure are excited about the prospect of these two favorite MCU directors potentially directing Avengers 5. As we wait for an official confirmation, only time will tell how successful the Loki duo turns out to be for the upcoming Avengers 5.
Avengers 5 is expected to release on May 1, 2026.
