Google‘s top trending movies of 2024 have been revealed, and there are some surprise omissions. 2024 has been a big release year, with box office successes coming both from MCU titles like Deadpool & Wolverine and Disney fare such as Moana 2 and Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Universal’s musical adaptation Wicked has also been one of the big hits this fall, continuing to rage on at the box office past its third weekend in theaters. As the year continues, other big releases are planned, including sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3, among others.
Now, Google has revealed their top trending searches for 2024 movies. This data refers to the searches that had a high spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2024 as compared with 2023. These movies do not necessarily have to have been released in 2024 to make the list. This year, the top 10 trending searches for movies include, in order, Inside Out 2, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, It Ends with Us, Saltburn, Dune: Part Two, Twisters, Deadpool & Wolverine, Despicable Me 4, Terrifier 3, and Alien: Romulus. Check out the full list below:

What This Means For 2024 Movies
Saltburn Was Released In 2023
In general, the top trending Google searches for movies correlate with what has done well at the box office in 2024. Five of the ten titles (Inside Out 2, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Dune: Part Two, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Despicable Me 4) are also in the top 10 highest-grossing movies of the year at the worldwide box office so far. Another three (Twisters, It Ends With Us, and Alien: Romulus) are in the top 25. These trends make sense, as it is logical that movies that did well at the box office over a sustained period would also be Google searched.
Perhaps the most surprising entry on the list is Saltburn. Saltburn is the only one of the ten titles that was not released in 2024. Directed by Emerald Fennell, Saltburn is a psychological thriller that was released to relatively positive reviews last year. Scenes from the film, some of which were quite risqué, trended on TikTok for months after the movies came out. Saltburn‘s inclusion on the top trending searches for 2024 shows that its virality extended far past its immediate post-release conversation.
Our Take On Google’s 2024 Top Trending Searches In Movies
Terrifier 3 Is A Standout Selection
While a lot of this Google top 10 list is fairly predictable, such as the box office hit Inside Out 2 being the no. 1 trending search, it is more notable that both Saltburn and Terrifier 3 made the list. Terrifier 3 is a horror film made on an incredibly small budget. Not only did it turn an immense profit at the box office, but its place on this elite list (among much higher-budget films) shows that the movie succeeded in being wrapped in the zeitgeist. It is heartening to see these smaller movies find success online amidst conventional blockbusters.
