Fans of the beloved “Princess Diaries” franchise have reason to celebrate as actress Anne Hathaway recently confirmed that “The Princess Diaries 3” is officially in development.
Hathaway, who famously portrayed Mia Thermopolis, the reluctant princess-turned-queen of the fictional kingdom of Genovia, made the exciting announcement on her social media.
“Miracles happen…back to Genovia with Adele Lim, Disney, and Somewhere Pictures. The fairy tale continues,” she wrote in her post.
The third installment will continue Mia’s royal journey, with Hathaway reprising her iconic role.
In the original film, Mia discovers from her paternal grandmother Clarisse, played by Julia Andrews, that she is the heir to the throne of Genovia.
While the plot remains undisclosed, the announcement has sparked renewed excitement for the beloved world of Genovia, which won over audiences with the first two films, released in 2001 and 2004.
The film will be directed by Adele Lim, the screenwriter behindthe hit films “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
