The Duchess of Sussex previously failed the Foreign Service Officer test.
The US State Department has published a version of the test that dealt a “major blow” to Meghan Markle’s confidence and career goals.
The Duchess of Sussex once aspired to enter politics, but her ambitions fell apart when she failed a key test while interning at the US embassy in Buenos Aires.
The Foreign Service Officer Test is a three-hour exam that includes questions on politics, history, general knowledge, and maths.
The US State Department has published an official online mock test to assess participants’ performance on the actual exam.
Meghan Markle once aspired to enter politics
Although this is not the exact test the Duchess of Sussex took, after failing it, Meghan never again tried to get into the diplomatic service.
The American-based questions include understanding how US legislation is passed, Supreme Court verdicts, and the reasoning behind high-profile legal movements.
The multiple-choice test begins by testing knowledge of the formation of US government departments after World War II, followed by an understanding of the two levels of US law.
The multiple-choice test also requires the participant to know that the USA has the largest illegal drug marketplace in terms of revenue, the formation of the Warsaw Pact in response to the creation of NATO, and to recognise quotes from Karl Marx.
The Duchess of Susses pursued a successful acting career and later released a record breaking Netflix documentary with Prince Harry
Made up of 25 questions, some more topics the test required the participant to understand were supply and demand theory, the lessons learned from Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement policies, and the connection between Roe v. Wade and the women’s movement.
Over one in three people thought they could pass the mock test, with two in five admitting defeat.
She secured the internship with the help of her now-estranged father, Thomas Markle and his brother, Mike.
According to a biography of her life, Finding Freedom, written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, the test was highly competitive, and Meghan was disappointed to have failed.
Meghan Markle failed a key test while interning at the US embassy in Buenos Aires.
The book read: “She wasn’t used to failing. It was a major blow to her confidence, which she had always tried to protect.”
Meghan returned to Northwestern University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree with a double major in theatre and international studies at the School of Communication.
The Duchess of Susses pursued a successful acting career, starring in the two-time People’s Choice Award-nominated show Suits and later releasing a successful Netflix documentary titled Meghan and Harry.
The first three episodes of the docuseries broke streaming records and captured over 80 million hours of viewing globally.
