Senior FBI officials told Fox News that Robinson had a “romantic relationship” with a transgender person transitioning from male to female, with whom he shared an apartment in St. George, Utah. This individual is reportedly “extremely cooperative” with authorities.
Public records reviewed by the New York Post indicate that Robinson was connected to Lance Twiggs, 22, who lived at the same address. A relative confirmed that Twiggs was Robinson’s roommate but declined to comment on their relationship.
The FBI is currently reviewing “a mountain of evidence,” including communications between Robinson and Twiggs, as well as “every connection, every group, and anyone involved” in the shooting.
Investigators said that text messages and Discord conversations retrieved from the couple’s devices provided critical clues, including references to a rifle wrapped in a towel and hidden near Utah Valley University, where Kirk was fatally shot on September 10.
Police recovered a rifle and ammunition inscribed with slogans such as “Hey fascist! Catch this!” and a quote from the World War II Italian anti-fascist song “Bella Ciao.” Another shell casing bore the phrase “pet culture,” while another read, “If you’re reading this, you’re gay lmao.”
Axios, citing six sources close to the investigation, reported that investigators are examining whether Robinson was motivated by anger over Kirk’s criticism of the “LGBTQ agenda” and gender transition processes.
One source said the roommate was “horrified” by the news of the murder and quickly turned over messages from Robinson.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox described Robinson as someone “indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” although his family insisted they are lifelong Republicans.
The FBI has not publicly confirmed a motive but stated it is analyzing evidence at Quantico and tracking “every connection, every group” related to the case.
Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck and killed while speaking to students in Orem, Utah.
Robinson was arrested on September 12 after his father recognized him in surveillance footage and persuaded him to surrender.
