Emily in Paris is not Netflix show’s real name as fans fume after realizing

Netflix viewers have been left completely stunned after realizing they have been pronouncing the name of the hit show Emily in Paris wrong the entire time.

Emily in Paris: Season 4, Part II, The Recap

The Netflix series “Emily in Paris” has a pronunciation twist that left fans stunned.

The official Netflix account dropped a bombshell back in 2020, tweeting: “Friendly reminder Emily in Paris is supposed to be pronounced with a French accent so ‘Emily’ and ‘Paris’ rhyme.” This means the show’s title should actually sound like “Emilee in Paree”.

The revelation sent shockwaves through social media, with one user simply exclaiming “omg” and another bewildered fan asking: “I’m sorry…what? ? ? ” A witty viewer suggested calling it “Parisly” to match the rhyme, while celebrity blogger Perez Hilton chimed in with a gif of Barney Stinson’s iconic mind-blown gesture. Some critics didn’t hold back, with one saying: “Well there it is…I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate this show more,” another threatening to “Why does this make me want to cancel Netflix? ” and a third flatly rejecting the idea with a “Nope.”

Even the cast seemed out of the loop, as promotional materials and videos typically feature them saying “Emily in Paris” without the French twist. However, Lily Collins, the show’s lead, confessed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she too had been “saying it wrong” all along.

Apparently the name actually has a French accent

She explained that during filming in Paris, the title was often referred to with the French pronunciation due to the local accent, reports the Daily Star.

Lily Collins, the star of Emily in Paris, has revealed that she was pronouncing the name of her own show incorrectly. In an interview, Collins explained that she only found out she was saying it wrong when she saw a tweet about it.

“I was like: ‘Oh yeah, it rhymes. That’s cute.’ Literally forgot about it, came back home. It was never, like, a big thing, then I felt like I was one with every single other person in the world that found that out the same day [from the tweet].”

Collins continued: “I was like: ‘Have I been saying it wrong? ‘ We’ve all been saying Emily in Paris. I was like: ‘Oh my god, I fell for it.’ So yeah, I’m Emily and I even was saying it wrong, so go figure. I feel like that’s actually something Emily herself would be like: ‘I guess I was part of the joke’.”
