The Witcher fans have a lot to look forward to in 2025, as the franchise is gearing up for a big year with new content. One of the most exciting bits of news is the introduction of Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia in season 4, following Henry Cavill’s departure. Netflix Tudum let us know that they finished filming the new season in October 2024, and we’re waiting to see it drop.

But that’s not all! There’s an anime film coming out on February 11, 2025, which is bound to be a hit with The Witcher fans everywhere. If that wasn’t enough, Andrzej Sapkowski’s new book is getting a translation for everyone to read in the same year.

Even though season 3 had its share of mixed reviews, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich wants to reassure everyone that the story will challenge the characters we’ve come to know and love. Plus, with all these new projects happening, the world of The Witcher is growing like never before.

It’s going to be a blast seeing where the story goes next!

What’s new in The Witcher franchise for 2025?

2025 is gearing up to be a big year for The Witcher. First up, the anime flick Sirens of the Deep hits Netflix on February 11. This one looks like it’ll keep the same vibe as Nightmare of the Wolf from 2021, which everyone loved. The trailer hints at a gloomy, immersive story that’s right up the alley for book and game fans.

Let’s not forget about Andrzej Sapkowski’s new novel, Crossroads of the Crow. It’s set to come out in Poland towards the end of 2024, and the rest of the world is counting down the days for the English version. This book is going to give us a peek into Geralt’s teenage years, which is something fresh and exciting.

Last but not least, The Witcher Season 4 might wrap up the year. Now, we’re all a bit curious about Hemsworth playing Geralt, especially after Henry Cavill did it so well. But Netflix Tudum‘s sneak peeks have got everyone buzzing with their talk of new faces and energy.

Characters like Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne, and Leo Bonhart, played by Sharlto Copley, are joining in. The show’s based on the books Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake, so get ready for battles and reunions.

Liam Hemsworth steps into Geralt’s shoes

Choosing Liam Hemsworth to play Geralt in the show got people talking, especially since he’s stepping into the shoes of Henry Cavill, who nailed that intense, brooding vibe. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich knows it’s a tough act to follow.

She said,

“It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit.”

Liam seems excited about it all, though. He said it’s like “a dream come true” to play the White Wolf. And he’s got his work cut out for him.

He noted in a statement,

“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored to take up the mantle of such a fascinating character.”

His first episode has Geralt trying to find Ciri and Yennefer again, but it’s not easy because they’re stuck in a war-torn world. He’ll have his buddies Jaskier, played by Joey Batey, and Milva, played by Meng’er Zhang, by his side, though.

2025 could be a turning point for The Witcher franchise

The Witcher series has had some bumps in the road with criticism over the past few years, especially concerning how it strays from the books and the pacing issues in the Netflix show. But 2025 brings a new hope that could win back some of the love.

There’s an anime movie and a novel coming out that are like a fan service for the die-hard fans who know the original story inside and out. And then there’s season 4, which is a fresh start with new faces and storylines that might just get new people hooked on the whole Witcher world.

On top of that, the excitement for The Witcher 4 video game is building up, even though we’ll have to wait until 2026 to play it. But with all these new projects happening in 2025, people will be talking about it even more. The folks behind The Witcher are trying to make sure it’s not just a thing people like, but part of pop culture forever.

To jump back into Geralt’s world, binge-watch The Witcher on Netflix.
