Peter Phillips, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth, has revealed that he is engaged to his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling.
Peter, 47, who is Princess Anne’s eldest son, will marry Harriet, 45, after dating the NHS paediatric nurse for the past year. The couple are yet to set a date for the wedding but have informed the King and Queen today of their engagement. Prince William and the Princess of Wales were also informed ahead of today’s announcement.
The couple said in a statement: “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.
“Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.”
Peter and Harriet reportedly met at a sporting event in 2024, but revealed their relationship last May when they were spotted strolling hand-in-hand at Badminton Horse Trials in Gloucestershire.
At the time, Peter’s sister Zara Tindall said the royal had been “spending time” with someone, but did not offer up any more details. A month later Harriet was spotted drinking champagne with the King and Queen at Royal Ascot.
She began to appear alongside her new beau at several events afterwards, including sporting events thrown by Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles.
Their romance came about just weeks after the royal split from his previous partner Lindsay Wallace. Since their sighting last May, the smitten pair have been spotted at a number of high society events together including Wimbledon and Cheltenham Races.
Peter has two daughters – Savannah, 14, and Isla, 13, from his previous 12-year marriage to Autumn Kelly.
