Missing Woman Found Chained by the Neck and Gagged in Ex’s House — Police Storm Home After 5-Day Ordeal
A 24-year-old woman who vanished after a routine medical appointment was discovered by police bound, gagged, and chained inside a house belonging to her former partner in central Brazil.
Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho was reported missing on August 17, 2026, after she failed to return home from a clinic visit in Águas Lindas de Goiás, near the Federal District. Security cameras captured her leaving the clinic that afternoon. She was not seen again until five days later.
On August 21, officers from the Military Police’s specialized unit located a residence in the Jardim América III neighborhood. After cutting through locks and forcing entry, they found Carvalho inside a back room. She was restrained with ropes, handcuffs, and metal chains that secured her limbs and neck to a mattress. A gag and a mask covered her face, leaving her struggling to breathe.
The suspect, her ex-partner Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, was arrested the same day. Police stopped a vehicle he was driving after he attempted to flee at high speed. Authorities later determined he had also been reported missing around the same time as Carvalho, a move investigators believe was intended to divert attention.
According to police statements, Souza admitted to sedating Carvalho with antidepressant medication before transporting her to the rented property. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol, additional restraints, and sedatives from the house. A handwritten letter bearing Carvalho’s signature was also found. Addressed to her family, the note referred to personal assets and urged relatives not to contact the police. Investigators are examining whether the letter was written under duress.
Carvalho was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She was later discharged and has since described her ordeal in social media videos. She stated that she was assaulted repeatedly during captivity and that cloths soaked in acid were forced into her mouth, causing internal burns. She reported ongoing physical effects, including impaired vision, and said she remains under medication while recovering at home with her family.
The couple’s relationship had ended in December 2025. Carvalho has said Souza refused to accept the separation. Police noted a prior history of domestic violence complaints involving the pair. Souza faces charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, illegal firearm possession, and related offenses. A court ordered his preventive detention after a custody hearing.
The case has drawn attention to the risks faced by women leaving abusive relationships. Local authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances of the abduction and the conditions of Carvalho’s captivity. She has publicly thanked those who searched for her and urged others experiencing controlling behavior to seek help early.
Rescue footage released by police shows officers entering the darkened room and carefully freeing the shaking woman from the restraints. The images underscore the severity of the five-day ordeal that ended only when specialized teams forced their way into the property.
Carvalho’s recovery continues under medical supervision. The investigation remains active as authorities gather further evidence and statements.
