“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is now to set to end with its upcoming third season at Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon made the final season announcement on Friday. It was previously announced that the show would be back for Season 3 but it was not known that it would be the last season until now. Per Amazon, the final season will debut in July but no exact premiere date has been set at the time of this publishing. It will consist of 11 episodes.
The move is not altogether unexpected, as the show is based on the Jenny Han book trilogy of the same name, with each season corresponding to one book in the trilogy. The show originally debuted in 2022, with Season 2 dropping in 2023.
Per the official description, the show is a “a multigenerational drama that hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship. It is a coming-of-age story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer.”
Lola Tung leads the cast alongside fellow castmembers including Jackie Chung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Rachel Blanchard, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, and more.
Han serves as co-showrunner alongside Sarah Kucserka. Both are also executive producers along with Karen Rosenfelt as well as Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen for wiip. The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and wiip.
Han’s books have previously been adapted into the “To All the Boys” film franchise at Netflix, while she is also an executive producer on the series “XO, Kitty” at Netflix. That show is a spinoff of the “To All the Boys” films starring Anna Cathcart and was recently renewed for a third season.
