The Duffer Brothers Confirm We’ll Never See Stranger Things Characters Again After Season 5. No Spin-Offs, No Returns!

The Duffer Brothers confirmed that the Netflix‘s Stranger Things characters will not return after Season 5.

During SCAD TVfest (via Parade), Matt and Ross Duffer (also known as ‘The Duffer Brothers’) received the Variety Showrunner Award. The brothers confirmed that we’ll never see Stranger Things characters again after Season 5—no spin-offs, no returns. Additionally, rumors of a Steve and Dustin spin-off were shut down.

Matt said, “This story, these characters’ stories—that’s done.” He added, “That whole story is coming to an end. There’s not like a Steve/Dustin spin-off or something like that.”

He continued, “The hope is that we finish telling this story, and then you leave it and tell new stories. Hopefully, there are new characters that people can fall in love with.”

Ross Duffer says that they spent a full year filming Stranger Things Season 5, capturing over 650 hours of footage. He described Season 5 as their “biggest and most ambitious season yet,” comparing it to “8 blockbuster movies” and calling it “pretty, pretty insane.”

Season 5 filming wrapped in mid-December 2024, with Netflix officially announcing it and sharing some behind-the-scenes images of the cast. Post-production work is now underway.

Created by the Duffer brothers. The show is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s and follows a group of friends as they uncover supernatural mysteries and government conspiracies.

The final season will have 8 episodes, with the titles as follows: Episode 1: “The Crawl,” Episode 2: “The Vanishing of Jane Hopper,” Episode 3: “The Turnbow Trap,” Episode 4: “Sorcerer,” Episode 5: “Shock Jock,” Episode 6: “Escape From Camazotz,” Episode 7: “The Bridge,” and Episode 8: “The Rightside Up.”

According to a leak, Stranger Things Season 5 will premiere on Netflix on November 27, 2025.
