The Diplomat Season 3 reveals a West Wing reunion as Kate and Hal act strangely toward their new President, with more surprises to come!

The first images from The Diplomat season reveal a West Wing reunion while giving the first glimpses of Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell returning as Kate and Hal Wyler. The Diplomat season 3 is set to premiere on Netflix later this year, picking up after a shocking cliffhanger that saw Janney’s character, Grace Penn, go from Vice President to U.S. President. The political thriller, from West Wing creator Debora Cahn, has more surprises on the way.

Netflix has unveiled new images from The Diplomat season 3, which show the less-than-enthusiastic returns of Kate and Hal. That may be because of the circumstances around the season 2 ending. In any case, the photos also reveal the first look at West Wing alum Bradley Whitford reuniting with Janney and playing Grace’s husband. One photo shows the reunited co-stars in a scene with Russell and Sewell. Check it out below:

What The New Photos Mean For The Diplomat Season 3

It’ll Be A Big Change Of Pace

In the finale of The Diplomat season 2, Michael McKean’s President Rayburn dies after learning about Grace’s ties to an attack that led to casualties. That wasn’t the intent, but the operation went horribly wrong. In any case, the death means Grace is now the U.S. President and there’s an open question whether she’ll choose Kate as her VP. The two had a rocky relationship in the second installment, which will likely continue into the third.

Despite the tense finale scene when viewers last caught up with the Netflix series, with Kate and Grace finding out about her fate, they seem to be getting along better in these latest photos. Appearances can be deceiving, especially in politics and after what Grace has been involved in. But if nothing else, Witford fits in well with The Diplomat castwhich also includes David Gyasi, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, and Ali Ahn.

Our Take On The New Diplomat Photos

It’s A Different Side To Whitford & Janney’s Chemistry

During their time as Josh and CJ on The West Wing, Janney and Whitford never veered into playing romantic partners. They’ll have a bit of fun with that when The Diplomat returns with new episodes. But there are much bigger questions about how the show will handle all the fallout from that significant death.
