A rare college party photo of Kate Middleton has resurfaced on Instagram. The Princess of Wales was seen with her roommate at a flat party in the throwback image, taken while she and Prince William were dating.
Kate Middleton looked like an ordinary college student in the throwback snap
A rare college party pic of Kate Middleton resurfaced on Instagram in July 2024, but it took until November for it to gain traction on social media. Kate’s former roommate, Laura Warshauer, posted the sweet image, taken during their college days.
In the caption, Warshauer wrote, “Sending love to Kate Middleton, the future Queen of England and my university dormmate! This was us at a Hope Street flat party.”
“I have the loveliest college memories with Kate. She is the kindest, most caring, down-to-earth, genuine person, and it’s incredible to see her shining so brightly and inspiring the world with her compassion and courage,” she continued.
Following, Warshauer added, she met William and Kate the same week they met each other for the first time. That would place the timeline of the relationship around 2001, shortly after they began their studies.
The women were roommates at St Salvator’s Hall during their first year at Scotland’s St Andrews University in 2001. Kate’s future husband, Prince William, lived in the same residence halls.
Why did Kate Middleton’s roommate share the throwback photograph?
Laura Warshauer’s Instagram post coincided with Kate Middleton’s health crisis earlier this year. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in the early months of 2024 and by March, had posted a video where she explained her health challenges.
Warshauer posted the image in July to support her former friend. It was posted four days after Kate attended Wimbledon with her sister Pippa Middleton and daughter, Princess Charlotte, on July 14. The princess revealed in September she had completed chemotherapy, noting that she was cancer-free.
Kate Middleton’s former friend is an American singer. Her vocals have been compared to those of singers Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, Imogen Heap, and Cyndi Lauper.
After finding out about William and Kate’s engagement, Warshauer wrote a song titled “To Will and Kate, Meet Me at Exit 109” for the couple. The song’s official music video shares rare photos of the friends together at St. Andrews University.

One year after beginning their studies at St. Andrews University, Kate Middleton and Prince William became good friends. He saw her in a different light after she modeled in a college fashion show wearing a see-through dress.
Kate and William moved out of the dorms and into a flat with other friends in 2002. Their relationship was kept under the radar from the press until two years later when they were photographed during a ski trip in Klosters.
In 2005, the couple graduated. One year later, Kate made her first formal appearance at the wedding of Camilla Parker Bowles’ daughter, Laura.
But in early 2007, the couple split. However, their separation didn’t last long, reuniting several months later.
By November 2010, Kate and William were engaged. They wed in April 2011.
