Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras is putting some distance between himself and Polo, Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries. The professional polo player said he, along with the Duke of Sussex, 40, aren’t the show’s main focus.

Figueras on ‘Polo’: ‘Not about me’ or Harry

Figueras discussed the upcoming Polo docuseries Harry’s producing for Netflix as part of his and Meghan Markle’s partnership with the streamer at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. He told People he only “help[ed]” with the show.

“Look, to me, it’s an honor to do anything with him,” Figueras said of Harry. “He’s a dear friend. This is more his project than it is mine. It’s an honor to know that I was able to help.”

Figueras went on to seemingly reference a report the focus of Polo is him instead of Harry (more on that in a bit). “And the show is not about me. It’s not about him…So we’ve been working very hard on it and we’re very excited about the outcome.”

Noting he’s spent his “entire life” waiting for a polo docueries, Figueras shared that he hopes Polo will follow in the footsteps of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

“You know, the behind-the-scenes, kind of like what Drive to Survive did for Formula 1. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens…Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a, hopefully, longer series that will expose our sport to millions of people.”

Figueras’ comments come after a report he’s the focus of ‘Polo,’ not Prince Harry

The Argentinian professional polo player’s comments follow a Daily Mail report Polo doesn’t feature Harry much. One insider even referred to the docuseries as “the Nacho show” in reference to Figueras.

“What Netflix have received in return doesn’t look great,” a Hollywood producer said. “People want personal stuff. Apart from their documentary series [Harry & Meghan], which had the drama of them quitting the Royal Family, everything else they’ve produced has been underwhelming.”

“Any reasonable person tuning into a show about polo made by Prince Harry would expect Harry to take a starring role,” the insider said. “That he’s not is hugely disappointing for Netflix. Let’s face it, polo isn’t exactly a mainstream sport so the attraction would have been watching Harry. Without him, it’s marginal at best.”

The premiere date of ‘Polo’ has yet to be announced

At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t released much about Polo—no trailers, teasers, or photos. However, the streamer has revealed it’s set for a December 2024 premiere. An exact date has yet to be announced.

The official synopsis reads: “A captivating new five-episode documentary series offering an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of polo, following elite global players as they compete in the high-stakes U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida. Viewers will get an unprecedented glimpse into the dedication and skill required to compete at the sport’s highest level.”

Polo will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s fourth project to hit Netflix after Harry & MeghanLive to Lead, and Heart of Invictus. Meghan also has a lifestyle show in the works—filming reportedly wrapped over the summer—that has yet to premiere.
