Prince Harry lands top honour for his work but Prince William is brutally snubbed

Prince Harry has been handed yet another to honour – recognising a project close to his heart.

The Duke of Sussex has been named as one of the world’s leading voices when it comes to tackling climate change in a new list by TIME magazine. Harry joins the likes of Bill Gates on the Time100 Climate 2024 list of “100 most influential leaders driving business to real climate action”.

He has been recognised for his work with his not-for-profit sustainable travel organisation Travalyst, which he set up several years ago. However, there was no place on the list for Harry’s estranged brother Prince William, who has also made tackling climate change an important part of his work.

Just last week, he hosted his fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa which rewards environmental entrepreneurs with £1 million to scale up their innovative ideas to repair the planet.

Harry was named in the 2024 list’s Titan category with TIME explaining the duke’s inclusion on the prestigious list. It said: “The Duke of Sussex supports conservation groups in Africa and says he really became an environmentalist during a trip in 2012 to the Caribbean when a 7-year-old boy told him that England’s environmental impact was damaging the coral reefs.

“After that interaction, he was inspired to start Travalyst (travel and catalyst), a non-profit that provides people booking travel with emissions and other sustainability data so they can consider the lowest impact options.”

News of Harry’s honour comes after he told how “true power lies in our ability to unite” as he paid tribute to veterans, reaffirming his “lifelong admiration and appreciation” for their “service and sacrifice”. Former soldier Harry, who served on the front line in Afghanistan, released a rare statement on Monday, marking Remembrance Day in the UK and Veterans Day in the US.

The duke’s message, addressed to “My fellow veterans”, comes just days after Donald Trump secured a dramatic comeback to win the American presidential election, amid fears from critics of the Republican president-elect that his second term will be more divisive than his first.

Harry praised ex-servicemen and women for having played a “vital role in defending the values of liberty, freedom, and security”, saying: “These values bind us together and have shaped you as leaders and role models.” He stressed the importance of unity and morality.

The duke, who lives in California with the Duchess of Sussex and their children, considers the annual Remembrance commemorations an important moment of reflection, having spent 10 years in the armed forces.

He founded his Invictus Games in 2014 to help wounded, injured and sick veterans and still-serving servicemen and women. In 2020 – the year of Megxit – Harry was left saddened when he was refused his wish to have a poppy wreath placed at the Cenotaph – the focus of the UK’s Remembrance Sunday service – on his behalf.
