Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series will show ‘grit behind the glamour’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series will show the “grit behind the glamour,” the Duke says.

Polo will become the fourth documentary series produced by the Sussexes’ Archewell Productions for Netflix, following Harry & Meghan, Live to Lead and Heart of Invictus. Archewell Productions has a multimillion-pound deal with the streaming giant, which will air the latest show globally next month.

The five-part series follows elite global players on and off the field as they compete in the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida. However, Prince Harry, 40, also insists it will offer viewers “the grit behind the glamour” often associated with the ball game, known as The Sport of Kings.

Harry, who has played polo for decades and is a huge fan of the equestrian sport, said: “This series offers audiences an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look into the passion and determination driving some of the world’s elite polo players, revealing the grit behind the glamour. We’re proud to showcase the true depth and spirit of the sport — and the intensity of its high-stakes moments.”

A trailer for the series, executive produced by Harry and Meghan, was released on Thursday, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the “fast-paced and glamorous world of polo”. The Netflix programme follows elite global players on and off the field as they compete in the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida. Harry and Meghan moved to the US in 2020 after stepping down from royal duties.

Since then, the couple founded Archewell Productions, which made Heart of Invictus for the streaming service. It aired last August and followed a group of service members on their road to the Invictus Games, the Paralympic-style sporting competition set up by Harry in 2014 for injured and sick military personnel and veterans.

Netflix also released the documentary series Live To Lead and the controversial six-part Harry & Meghan documentary in December 2022. In it, the Duke of Sussex accused his brother of “shouting and screaming” and his father of lying during private crisis talks before he and wife Meghan quit life as royals. However, the Mirror told how King Charles and Princess William “did not watch” Harry & Meghan.
