Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Opened Their Home to Loved Ones Amid California Wildfires, How Kind!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are doing what they can to offer support as wildfires devastate Southern California.

Parade understands that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reside in Montecito, California, have opened up their home to friends and loved ones who were forced to evacuate due to the fires.

On Thursday, the royal couple’s website shared ideas on how to help, one of which was “open your home.” “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do,” the Sussexes’ website notes. “And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.”

They also suggested donating essentials to the American Red Cross. The Sussex family has contributed clothing, children’s items and other essential supplies to those affected by the fires, and they’ve made donations to relief efforts through their foundation, The Archewell Foundation.

Parade understands that Meghan and Harry have also been in direct contact with José Andrés and are working alongside his World Central Kitchen to provide further relief efforts.

World Central Kitchen, a longtime partner of the couple’s foundation, was among the organizations listed on the Sussexes’ website to support, in addition to CAL FIRE and LA Fire Department Foundation, Animal Wellness Foundation, Baby2baby, Airbnb and 211LA, Compton Cowboys and All Power Books.

During a press conference on Jan. 9, Kristin M. Crowley, Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, said that the “damage assessments are ongoing at the Palisades fire, however preliminary reports estimate the damage or destroyed structures to be in the thousands.”

Chief Crowley added, “It is safe to say that the Palisades fire is one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of Los Angeles.”
