We’ve long heard Meghan Markle‘s palace staffers weren’t her biggest fans. Was the same true of her Spotify employees??
UK royal correspondent Neil Sean told Fox News Digital on Thursday that the Duchess of Sussex’s staff during her brief tenure at the streaming service had a secret nickname for her — and it was brutal!! Sean dished:
“Ex-staff members… told me they decided to christen her ‘Eva’ and this was used as a warning signal to let people know that she was either arriving or on the warpath.”
Eva? How’s that bad? What does it even mean? Well, there’s some messy context!
Apparently, this nickname was inspired by Joan Crawford‘s character in the film Queen Bee, where she starred as a “manipulative” socialite who “sets out to destroy the lives of all those around her,” per Turner Classic Movies. Damn! That’s some cinema-literate savagery! Sean explained further:
“This wasn’t an engaging pet nickname. The nickname came from the 1955 camp classic ‘Queen Bee’ starring the ultimate diva… herself — Joan Crawford… This is because, like the Joan character [Eva Phillips], she stung her victims to pieces. This is exactly how staff felt about working alongside [Meghan].”
Jeez!
This comes after Meghan and Prince Harry were slammed in a bombshell Vanity Fair article earlier this month. Many staff spoke out about her being a difficult boss, and this is something that her Archetypes team at the music streamer felt, too, Sean added:
“There were many things that were not covered. Behind the scenes, staff [found] Meghan really difficult to deal with, simply because of her… mood swings and just how well certain aspects of her career [were] going… [they] thought she was quite tough and bossy, so decided to [give her] the nickname of that character… She was high camp without realizing it.”
For instance, sources told Sean that the Suits alum only wanted “to speak to the person at the top”:
“When that person is not around, they have to be reminded that they are dealing with somebody who is a duchess and more importantly, a member of the British royal family. This worked at the beginning as people were… beguiled by Meghan’s presence. But it quickly wore off when she became demanding… clearly forgetting her struggling actress days.”
Oof.
Don’t worry. The Spare author wasn’t completely ignored either. Harry’s nickname was “Tim Nice But Dim,” referring to the British TV comedy of a similar name. He was also “unaware” of the name.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard some negativity about the couple from those at the music streamer. Podcaster Bill Simmons, who is also the head of Spotify’s international sports content, previously BLASTED them for being lazy “grifters” after they signed a massive deal with the platform and then hardly released any content. After just a few episodes of her podcast were shared with the public, Spotify and Archewell Audio announced they were parting ways in 2023.
To be THIS difficult to work with on a show that took years to create and then was immediately canceled? We get why her employees were fed up! Reactions?! Tell us (below).
