The anticipation for a potential reboot of the popular legal drama Suits has been mounting among fans ever since the show concluded in 2019.
The series, which chronicled the lives of a group of lawyers at a prestigious New York City firm, garnered a devoted following over nine seasons and notably propelled Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, into the spotlight with her portrayal of paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane.
Fans were ecstatic when news surfaced that the show’s creator, Aaron Korsh, was in the initial stages of developing a Suits reboot, hinting at the return of beloved characters to the screen.
However, the initial excitement quickly gave way to astonishment as details emerged regarding Meghan Markle’s stipulations for her potential comeback to the show.
Sources intimately connected to the production disclosed that Meghan had reached out to Korsh via email earlier this year, expressing her interest in reprising her role as Rachel.
Nevertheless, her conditions for rejoining the cast were nothing short of extraordinary.
Meghan purportedly insisted on an exorbitant $57,000 per episode, surpassing her previous salary twofold and eclipsing any other cast member’s earnings.
Yet, the financial demands were merely the beginning of her requests.
She even pushed for a clause that would grant her the liberty to exit the show at any juncture without facing repercussions, effectively holding the production hostage to her whims.
Korsh was reportedly taken aback by Meghan’s audacious demands, deeming them unreasonable, grasping, and perceived as an attempt to leverage Suits to bolster her celebrity status post her withdrawal from royal duties.
The creator also harbored a sense of betrayal, considering Meghan’s abrupt departure from the show upon marrying Prince Harry in 2018, leaving behind her co-stars and the series that had propelled her to fame.
An insider close to the production disclosed, “Aaron and the team felt that Meghan had tarnished the show’s reputation with the controversies surrounding her and the royal family.
Bringing her back with such power and control was not something they were willing to entertain.”
Consequently, Korsh made the decision to rebuff Meghan’s demands and proceed with the reboot sans her involvement.
Notably, other cast members, including Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, and Sarah Rafferty, who portrayed Mike Ross, Harvey Spector, and Donna Paulson respectively, echoed disapproval of Meghan’s attempted resurgence.
A source revealed, “There’s a prevailing sentiment of resentment towards Meghan among the cast.
Her perceived abandonment of the show and her subsequent attempts to dictate terms are not being well-received.”
Despite the ensuing drama, the Suits reboot remains in progress, with Korsh and the production team laboring to assemble the core cast and finalize storylines.
While the return of iconic characters like Harvey, Mike, and Donna appears imminent, the prospect of Rachel Zane’s reappearance grows increasingly remote.
An industry insider aptly remarked, “Meghan Markle burned that bridge long ago, and reconciliation seems unlikely.”
The Suits reboot is indeed underway, albeit devoid of its former leading lady.
