Meghan Markle sent Christmas cheer in a thoughtful message and poem to carol singers from afar but it seemed like she didn’t get much attention

Meghan Markle sent a secret message and poem to support a UK charity close to her heart at a carol concert in London earlier this week.

Guests at the Smart Works’ inaugural carol concert on December 3 were welcomed by a few words from the Duchess of Sussex who had penned a thoughtful message, despite not being at the event.

While guests were welcomed with mince pies and sparkling wine, they also received an event programme in which Meghan wrote: “Tonight promises to be a truly magical celebration, filled with special guests and performers, and most importantly, the shared spirit of community that defines Smart Works.”

Her message continued: “Together we gather to honour the work and dedication of this remarkable organisation, which continues to empower women across the UK through coaching, dressing and instilling confidence on their journey to employment.”

Meghan has been a patron of Smart Works since 2019, and the charity is dedicated to helping disadvantaged women back into the workplace by offering coaching and styling sessions.

The volunteer-led company has helped over 35,000 women in 11 centres across the UK since its inception.

Meghan completed her message by writing: “I hope you enjoy the festivities, and, from my family to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas.”

The event held at St Marylebone Parish Church showcased a performance by singer Alexandra Burke and a reading by comedian Jennifer Saunders, both patrons of the charity.

Meghan also chose a reading for the event, which was a poem called ‘I’ve learned’ by Maya Angelou.

It comes as Princess Kate is set to host her ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service on December 6 at Westminster Abbey with many members of the Royal Family set to be in attendance.

Kensington Palace shared: “This year’s service provides a moment to reflect upon the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives. The service will shine a light on individuals from all over the UK who have shown love, kindness and empathy towards others in their communities.”

The Palace also added that the Princess of Wales wanted to “celebrate the many people supporting those in need – individuals who have inspired, counselled, comforted, and above all else shown that love is the greatest gift we can receive”.

Despite the health challenges she has faced, the concert forms part of Kate’s gradual return to public duties after finishing her chemotherapy treatment in the summer.
