Princess Kate is always seen looking flawless during her official Royal duties. She’s constantly smiling as she interacts with people during her engagements, and she seems genuinely happy to be there, representing the crown.

Even on engagement-filled Royal tours, which require the Princess of Wales to follow demanding schedules and represent the UK overseas, her smile never fades. However, a Royal expert has suggested that beneath this seemingly joyful exterior, there is a specific aspect of these foreign tours that is actually quite challenging for Kate emotionally, and it’s something she has reportedly battled with for years. Author and Royal expert Katie Nicholl, who has accompanied William and Kate on various Royal tours over the years, believes that as a committed, hands-on mother, the Princess of Wales finds it hard to be away from her three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six – for long periods.

The Daily Mail quoted Royal expert Nicholl, who said, “Kate wants to be modern, she wants to be hands-on, she wants to be present.”

Nicholl noted that despite the wealth and privilege of being a future Queen, it doesn’t make it easier for Kate to be away from her children. During Kate and William’s 2016 visit to Bhutan, Kate reportedly found the separation difficult, reports the Mirror.

“Despite being the Duchess of Cambridge and being able to afford around-the-clock nannies and so on, she had her mum looking after Prince George and Princess Charlotte, which struck me as just really normal. I could see how much comfort and confidence that gave her in getting on with her job, which she does brilliantly, but I think it is always such a wrench for her to leave her children behind,” Nicholl added.

It’s been reported that Kate and William have a parenting rule to ensure their children’s well-being – one parent stays home while the other travels if possible. However, some Royal engagements will require both parents to travel, leaving the children with family and childcare professionals.
