Ever since Meghan Markle married into the royal family, she has been susceptible to more criticism than most other celebrities. Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, ultimately didn’t like how they were treated as royals, so they opted to step down from their royal roles in 2020. Ever since, Meghan has been struggling to rebuild her reputation.

However, one expert is defending the Duchess of Sussex, saying that all she’s ever done is speak up about issues she’s passionate about yet continues getting attacked for it.

One expert is defending Meghan Markle for speaking up about issues

When Harry and Meghan left the royal family, they laid low for a while. However, after about a year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened up to Oprah Winfrey about everything they faced during their time together as royals, and it created a major divide between Harry and his relatives. The two eventually also came out with a Netflix documentary, and Harry even wrote a memoir detailing the difficulties he faced. The result was a divided fan base; some people were proud of Meghan for speaking her truth, while others felt she was fishing for empathy and trying to create more drama.

But so far in 2024, Harry and Meghan have hardly said a word about the royal family, suggesting they have finally put that chapter behind them. Still, though, Meghan continues to face criticism for her every move.

“Meghan Markle has done nothing but promote issues close to her heart and raise awareness about causes she is passionate about,” Abesi Manyando, a global celebrity publicist, told Express. “Yet, she is consistently on the receiving end of jarring criticism.

Manyando continued, “Many Black women face this every day in society and in work environments, where, no matter how intelligent, kind, quiet, and qualified we are, we are faced with disparagement, bullying, and humiliation.”

Meghan Markle has been laying low for months

The Duchess of Sussex has not done much in recent months that deserves criticism. She has continued to show up for certain charitable events and causes that she is passionate about. In addition to that, she’s continued to work behind the scenes on her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.

It’s unclear when Meghan’s brand will launch, but she has continued making progress on her new venture. Plus, she is filming a cooking show with Netflix, and while it does not have a release date yet, it’s been a highly-anticipated show that will likely help her further her brand as a lifestyle influencer.
