During an interview, Chace Crawford revealed that the Deep was supposed to be genetically gifted in The Boys and Prime Video was not happy.

The Boys has all kinds of characters, ranging from serious stoics to cowards, and some very brave people. Even though the series has some very dark and disturbing themes, it never takes itself too seriously, making fun of everything it possibly can. More often than not, the show executes such commentary through caricatures as characters.

The Deep is one such character, never being taken seriously; in the universe or among fans. His quirky behaviors, insufferable personality, past mistakes, and love for sea life have made him the butt of almost every joke in the fandom.

Despite all that he has gone through, it would seem that there was another trait that his character was originally supposed to have. Something that was removed after Prime Video stepped in and set a boundary.

Deep—The Gifted

Chace Crawford, who is best known for playing the role of Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, gave an interview with Daily Mail, where he talked about his role as the Deep in The Boys. Since the Amazon series is based on comics of the same name, they tried to be as accurate as they possibly could when it came to the character designs.

Unfortunately for them, since the comics are just as vulgar as the series, there were several questionable character designs, to say the least. One such character happens to be the Deep. Even though he was a horrible person and the joke of The Seven and Vought, he had one aspect to him. Kevin Moskowitz was particularly gifted when it came to his package. So much so, that it was very visible through his superhero suit.

In order to adapt this aspect of his character in the series, Crawford revealed during the interview that he ended up wearing a prosthetic p*nis to make eyes go exactly where the Deep wanted them to.

Prime Video Did Not Think The Boys Needed a Bigger Package

During the interview, Chace Crawford revealed that he shot the entire first season with the prosthetic on. However, when Prime Video heard about The Boys’ plan to add that part of the Deep into the show, they decided to put their foot down. The showrunner, Eric Kripke, revealed that Amazon had no issue with the show and did not want to change anything. At the same time, they were not happy about the prosthetic and asked the show to remove it.

Even though the series has graphic violence, nudity, gore, strong language, controversial themes, and so much more, the platform decided that the prosthetic crossed a line for them. Changing every single scene from the scene and editing Deep’s package to an average size, that part of the character was erased from the show and never added since.

[Showrunner Eric] Kripke was like, ‘We get no notes from Amazon, but the first one we got was that can’t f**king happen, we’ve got to take that out,’ he said. And we had to edit it out.

It is safe to say that if Prime Video had not objected, many fans would have enjoyed the addition to the character, making him even more comical than he already is.
