It took 22 years for the long-awaited sequel to “City of God“, the Brazilian classic that garnered all the praise in 2002, especially from the Academy, to be realized. Now, its continuation has arrived in series format.

HBO premiered “City of God: The Fight Rages On” just a few weeks ago, and the drama has already become the most-watched show of the moment. The story is set 20 years later and once again follows Rocket (Buscapé).

Several cast members have returned, including Alexandre Rodrigues (Aruanas and Heaven) in the lead role, who narrates the impact of the conflicts between the police, traffickers and militias on the community.

Flix Patrol reported this afternoon that the Brazilian production has managed to dethrone several trends on the platform with just its second episode, which was released on the streaming service on September 1st.

The new HBO TV show uses flashbacks from the original movie to reconstruct memories and emotional connections between the protagonists, providing emotional and narrative continuity between both projects.

Although it has been enthusiastically received by fans of the movie, some critics note that the tone has changed, reflecting the maturity of the characters and the harsher realities they face at this stage in their lives.
