As Deadpool & Wolverine gets closer to its July release, the big Marvel Cinematic Universe theory about Taylor Swift showing up gets officially debunked. Marvel Studios may only have one MCU film for 2024, but it will arguably be one of the most important ones. With Ryan Reynolds making the leap from Fox’s X-Men franchise, Deadpool & Wolverine will change MCU history forever, as the Merc With a Mouth enters the franchise.

Despite the popular theories that Swift would be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast, the global pop star is, in fact, not showing up in the MCU installment, according to Entertainment Weekly. This confirmation comes after months of Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds playing very coy about whether Swift is in the movie. Most suspected Swift would play the X-Men mutant Dazzler or the Wade Wilson variant Lady Deadpool.

Why Marvel Fans Were Convinced Taylor Swift Was In Deadpool & Wolverine

Taylor Swift sits on the mossy roof of the folklore cabin while performing "the 1" in The Eras Tour movie.

Even though Swift is not in Deadpool & Wolverine, there are a lot of valid reasons MCU fans believed she was set to show up in the Phase 5 adventure. Through several interviews, Reynolds and Levy have been asked about the possibility of Swift taking part in Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy went as far as to refuse to confirm if Swift was in Deadpool & Wolverine, while Reynolds recently reacted by saying:

Movies like this…there’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. I saw one that was convinced that Elvis is in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.

Something that also fueled the Swift MCU theories was her real-life friendship with Reynolds’ wife, and fellow actor, Blake Lively, with many thinking they grew close because the singer had worked on Deadpool & Wolverine. At the time of this story’s publication, a new Deadpool & Wolverine IMAX poster was released that a lot of fans took as a sign that maybe Marvel Studios was confirming the fan speculation. But if anything, the latest Deadpool & Wolverine marketing was more so expanding on the friendship necklace poster that came out months ago.

Even though Swift would have been a great fit as Dazzler, her not showing up in Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t mean the fan-casting idea couldn’t happen later. As the MCU gets ready to reboot the X-Men franchise under Marvel Studios, there is always the chance they lean into the Swift idea in the future. But for now, the MCU audience can finally put the theories about Swift being in Deadpool & Wolverine to rest.
