Netflix star ‘returning to huge TV show’ after ‘upsetting’ cast by slating latest season

Cast of huge Netflix series 'so upset' after co-star publicly slates show | Metro News

Lucas Bravo will be returning for season five of Emily in Paris after threatening to quit, it has been claimed.

The hit Netflix show premiered in 2020, with the 36-year-old starring as chef Gabriel, alongside Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold and Lucien Laviscount.

Shortly after the fourth season hit our screens, he spoke out against the decisions made for his character, and shared that he had questioned whether he still wanted to be part of the show.

Despite his remarks, which reportedly left his co-stars ‘upset’, he is set to make a return for the upcoming episodes.

According to Variety, the series is returning to Paris – but will also partially shoot in Rome – and filming will be kicking off in May, with Lucas ‘definitely on track’ to star, while his character’s restaurant will once again serve as a backdrop.

He has not addressed the reports publicly on social media.

Emily in Paris has become a major hit for the streaming platform since it debuted four years ago.

In the first series, Lily’s Emily found herself in a will-they, won’t they love story with the handsome foodie, who took her under his wing and showed her the sights of the French capital.

In season four, the titular character finally gave her relationship with Gabriel a proper go, but things very quickly came to a crashing halt, leading her to swap the City of Lights for Rome, on the arm of a new love interest.

Unpacking the series in a very candid interview, Lucas fumed that he has never felt so disconnected from his ‘oblivious’ character.

‘The “sexy chef” was very much part of me in season one and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take,’ he told IndieWire. ‘I’ve never been so far away from him.

‘In season one, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone, it became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole.’

He also claimed that the actors aren’t allowed ‘much liberty’ when it comes to their characters, adding: ‘We cannot change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply.

‘It makes me question if I want to be part of season five … because my contract ends at season four. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self.

‘Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into God knows what.’

Unsurprisingly, Lucas’ comments took on a life of their own, with the cast and crew reportedly ‘so upset’ over his criticisms.

‘Everyone is so upset about the remarks he made,’ an insider told Us Weekly, claiming ‘there is going to be a lot of tension’ if Lucas does decide to return.
