Prince Harry’s biggest UK royal family fight was over ‘Easter presents’

Prince Harry detailed a fall-out with Prince William and Kate Middleton over Easter

Prince Harry has penned a number of explosive claims about his family in the years since he quit royal life, but one of the most bizarre was his Easter fall-out with William and Kate

Prince Harry caught his fans off guard by revealing a disagreement with Prince William and Princess Kate that occurred around Easter, preceding his separation from the Royal family.

Presently, Harry is in the UK due to his ongoing security court battle; however, he did not get to see his father, the King, before the latter’s departure for Italy. Furthermore, a reunion with the Wales family appears unlikely, even though his nephews and niece, George, Louis, and Charlotte, are on their school break.

Following the Sussexes’ unexpected decision to step down from Royal life in January 2020, Harry and Meghan have made several public statements criticizing the Royals. Examples of this include their tell-all Oprah interview and Harry’s explosive claims in his memoir, Spare.

In his memoir, Spare, Harry mentioned a falling out with William and Kate around Easter. He recalled an occasion in June 2018 when he and Meghan invited Kate and William over for tea at Nottingham Cottage to discuss why Kate and Meghan did not get along.

In the book, Harry wrote, “For 10 minutes we did the classic small talk. How are the kids? How was your honeymoon?” reports the Mirror.

“Meg then acknowledged the tension among the four of us and ventured that it might go back to those early days when she’d first joined the family – a misunderstanding that had almost passed without notice. Kate thought Meg had wanted her fashion contacts. But Meg had her own,” Harry added.

He elaborated, “They’d got off on the wrong foot perhaps? And then, Meg added, everything got magnified by the wedding and those infernal bridesmaids’ dresses.”

Another surprising issue that seemed to trouble Prince William and Kate was revealed by Harry. He mentioned that not receiving Easter gifts from him and Meghan had particularly irked the couple.

“But it turned out there were other things… about which we’d been unaware. Willy and Kate were apparently upset that we hadn’t given them Easter presents,” Harry disclosed.

“Easter presents? Was that a thing? Willy and I had never exchanged Easter presents. Pa always made a big deal about Easter, sure, but that was Pa. Still, if Willy and Kate were upset, we apologized.”

Harry also pointed out a wedding grievance: “For our part, we chipped in that we weren’t too pleased when Willy and Kate switched place cards and changed seats at our wedding. We’d followed the American tradition, placing couples next to each other, but Willy and Kate didn’t like that tradition, so their table was the only one where spouses were apart.”

As time passed, the divide between Harry and his family seemed to have deepened significantly. It is believed that he has not seen his father, King Charles, in person for 14 months, even though they were just miles apart recently.

Harry, aged 40, landed at London Heathrow on Sunday, while Charles, 76, was in the city for postponed cancer treatment before his scheduled visit to Italy. Despite their proximity, the two did not meet.

The Duke is currently in London for a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice, where he is once again contesting the decision to withdraw his security in the UK. This is his final attempt to secure automatic state-backed security for himself and his family whenever they visit the UK – a privilege he lost when he stepped down from his role as a working Royal.

Last February, Harry “comprehensively lost” his legal fight with the Home Office when Mr Justice Lane ruled that the decision made by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) was neither irrational nor procedurally unfair.

However, his barrister, Shaheed Fatima KC, is now arguing that “he has been singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment”. She also alleged that Harry and Meghan were “forced” to step back from their Royal duties because “they considered they were not being protected by the institution.”
