Meghan Markle recounted the moment she first met the late Queen Elizabeth in the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan.

Prince Harry was reportedly left “red with anger” when his wife, Meghan Markle, performed an exaggerated version of her first curtsy to the late Queen Elizabeth, according to a body language expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed details about their Royal life in the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan. In the explosive series, the couple discussed Meghan’s initial encounter with the late queen. This meeting occurred while Harry and Meghan were in Windsor for lunch at the Royal Lodge with Princess Eugenie.

Harry questioned, “How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you will need to curtsy. Especially to an American. That’s weird.”

Meghan responded, “It’s surreal. It wasn’t like some big moment of like, ‘Now you’re going to meet my grandmother,” Meghan said. “I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before.”

“And I remember we were in the car and we were driving up and he’s like ‘You know how to curtsy right? ‘ And I just thought it was a joke.”

The duchess then re-enacted her first meeting with the late Queen, performing an extended and exaggerated curtsy, giggling as she said: “Pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty”, while the camera focused on Harry.

Body language expert Jesús Enrique Rosas observed the duke’s discomfort and analyzed Harry’s appearance in the clip on his Youtube channel, reports the Express.

He commented: “The first part of Harry’s reaction tells me that he knew what was coming. He is serious even if Meghan is speaking quickly, joyfully but there’s no connection, no empathy in him. He is serious and maybe even angry, notice what happens with his throat, he is swallowing at that moment.”

The specialist also mentioned Prince Harry exhibiting signs of “contempt” regarding Meghan’s remarks, pointing out the flush on his face as she exaggerated her bow: “He is looking at Meghan and he displays contempt. A split second after that, he looks away and presses his jaw,” the expert said. Furthermore, he observed: “You can see the patches of red on his face are much redder – the cheeks, the bridge of the nose, the temples – it could be that he feels ashamed or angry.”

He concluded with insights into Harry’s demeanor, saying: “I’m going to tell you why this is covert anger and not [Harry being] ashamed. If he was ashamed, he would have smiled a bit more, or [had] a nervous laughter.”

And summed up by indicating Harry’s apparent frustration: “But he knew what was coming and he couldn’t stand it – that he had that face at the beginning and had that subtle swallow right before Meghan did the curtsy.”
