If there’s one problem with binging the newly-dropped sixth season of Virgin River, it’s that we now have what promise
to be a long wait for new episodes. On the plus side, Netflix has already renewed the sudsy drama for at least another season…
which is a good thing, given how many cliffhangers we were left with! Speaking of which, if you have not yet watched the
10 wedding-centric episodes which comprised the most recent season, stop reading now. Why? Because we’re about to discuss now only what went down but what’s coming up. So consider this a very big, very serious warning that big ol’ spoilers are dead ahead!
First comes love, then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage? Having achieved those two goals, it’s looking as if the newlyweds will soon be ready to tackle the final part of that nursery rhyme. Any thoughts the pair had of taking the slow-and-steady approach to parenthood probably went out the window when, in the final moments of the season finale, mom-to-be Marley approached Mel and offered up her soon-to-arrive baby!
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tadum that “we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting.” He added that the next season will “explore the honeymoon phase” as they start their new life together and face new challenges.
“I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting,” says Smith. Season 7 will “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”
What Happened to Charmaine?
Speaking of babies, one thing Season 7 will need to address, pronto, is what happened to Charmaine and her twins? After Jack’s ex was a no-show at the wedding, he went to check on her and the twins, given that bad guy Calvin had been making threats against them. When Jack arrived at her home, he found the place had been trashed. But what’s really got us worried is that final scene of the entire season, in which Jack opened the door to the nursery and seemed horrified by whatever was on the other side of that door!
Will Denny and Lizzie’s Baby Be Okay?
That’s right, we have one more baby to talk about: The one expected by Denny and his girlfriend Lizzie. At the end of Season 5, Doc’s grandson revealed that he has Huntington’s Disease. Sadly, he spent most of Season 6 worrying about whether or not he’d passed the genetic disease on to his and Lizzie’s child, overshadowing what should have been a happy time for the expectant parents. There’s also the question of whether or not they’ll wind up getting married. But where that question is concerned, they’re in good company…
Which Couples Will Tie the Knot?
By the final moments of Season 6, Mel and Jack had officially become many and wife, and it felt a if the big event had triggered an outbreak of wedding fever in the California town! Mike proposed to Brie… who immediately confessed to having slept with her ex, Brady! (To his credit, Mike somewhat casually admitted that he already knew!) Given that Brady basically told Brie she was the one he would always love, she might have a big choice to make… especially since his other love interest, Lark, just skipped town with all of his money! “I’m blown away,” Brie’s portrayer, Zibby Allen, told TV Insider, of the cliffhanger. “And I’m like, ‘How are we going to move forward?’”
Preacher and Kaia also had marriage on their minds… although it was pretty clear that he’s more matrimonial minded than she is, at least so far. By season’s end, however, she’d kinda sorta acknowledged that marrying the cook might not be the worst idea in the world (using an adorable photo booth analogy so as to talk marriage without, you know, saying the word marriage!).
Can Doc Save The Clinic?
One of the most unexpected twists came right out of left field, where such shockers tend to dwell. What appeared to be an M.D. with a personal grudge against Doc turned out to be something much, much bigger. In the final moments of Season 6, Hope told her hubby that a large medical facility was looking to steal his clients and close down the clinic!
But surely the residents of Virgin River won’t allow that to happen, right? Somebody rally the sewing circle, because if those ladies were able to deal with all the pre-wedding issues which arose for Mel and Jack — and they did, beautifully — surely they can help save the clinic!
