“That was the last time she spoke to me”: Hugh Jackman Played the Sympathy Card to Impress a Girl He Liked But Even Wolverine Star’s Charm Was Not Enough

The Wolverine actor’s charm didn’t work on the girl he liked, and his attempt to play the sympathy card backfired.

With an alluring demeanor and an incredibly charming personality that perfectly fits his handsome Australian face (not to mention, the most perfectly toned body even at the age of 55), Hugh Jackman is easily regarded as one of the hottest men on this planet. In fact, his 32.2 million followers’ fanbase proves just how beloved of a person he is in the entire entertainment industry.

And yet, when it came to impressing one girl whom he liked back in his youthful days, the fan-beloved Wolverine portrayer couldn’t so much as quite make the perfect use of his charm. While he did try to play the sympathy card to catch that girl’s attention, it ended up taking a serious toll on him instead, making even his charm feel like it was not enough to make her like him.

Hugh Jackman Brutally Failed While Trying to Impress a Girl He Liked

Hugh Jackman may have the most impeccable charisma that could have any girl enchanted with him, but it all failed to work for one particular girl who had caught his fancy back in the day. And, surprisingly enough, this rather embarrassing story never made its way into the public before until now, as the actor himself confessed.

It all came to light recently during a candid turn of events when the actor was busy promoting his latest cinematic masterpiece with Ryan Reynolds and Emma Corrin, Deadpool & Wolverine, on an episode of British Vogue’s Never Have I Ever.

During this, the question came up: “Never have I ever tried to impress someone and failed,” which led to Jackman confessing about the time his charms just didn’t work on the girl he liked. Starting off, he said (via British Vogue on YouTube):

I’m gonna say I’m nine, probably 13, but that’s embarrassing. I’m nine and there was a girl who I really liked, Helena, her name was, and she just wouldn’t, she was a year older and she wouldn’t talk to me.

For whatever reason she may have been ignoring his presence, but The Greatest Showman wasn’t okay with it. Thus, he “dunno why I got in my head to get her attention I would invent a tick.” And, hilariously enough, this “tick” was him raising his eyebrows anytime he came across her. But what’s even more comedic than this is how it all turned out to be for Jackman.

As he continued to confess:

She said, what’s that? And I go, oh, you know, I’ve just had this thing. And it just happened. And she just went [shakes his head] like that and walked off. And that was the last time she spoke to me.

Albeit indeed embarrassing, Hugh Jackman tried to play the sympathy card to win this girl over, but fate seemingly decided to mock him for it, considering how his epic plan brutally failed.

Hugh Jackman Wanted to Show the Girl That He Could “Handle” Her

Following his confession, co-star Ryan Reynolds tried to sarcastically empathize with him, saying that the Logan star was probably just trying to show her that you had a cross to bear. Like this is my burden… If I can handle this I can handle you, Helena.”  And, hilariously enough, Jackman actually agreed with Reynolds on this.

As he continued to say in agreement, “Right, this is my burden and I have an ail, some kind of ailment.” However, truthfully enough, even The Wolverine actor came to terms with just how weird this situation must have felt to the girl, as he said:

[Right now Helena’s going] She’s gonna go yeah, that guy’s even weirder now than he was back then.

Plus, for the record, they were actually 26 when this happened, so, yeah, Hugh Jackman could have handled the situation a lot better. But then again, had it worked, this story wouldn’t have held the potential of going down as one of the hilarious failures at impressing a crush, so we’ll give the 55-year-old hunk credit for that. (Hugh Jackman, we still love you!)
