Not David Corenswet, The Level of Hate One Actor is Getting in Superman Proves DC Fans Are Their Own Enemy

Superman fans call out other DC fans for ridiculing a Superman actor for their appearance in the costume, which is literally comic appropriate.

Surprising many people, James Gunn has done a tremendous job of casting and portraying comic accurate characters in his upcoming Superman movie. Many fans who were initially wary of the movie, have steadily come over to his side as more details were released about the same.

However, a certain faction of fans remains unperturbed about their stance on hating Superman even amidst the cheering crowd. Now, after the teaser trailer was released a few days ago to massive acclaim, they have started picking on an actor from the movie for a peculiar reason. This has enraged the other faction, and since then a fierce debate has ensued online, proving that DC fans truly are their own worst enemies.

A faction of fans has started picking on Superman actor Edi Gathegi

There were fights going on between the two factions of Superman fans since James Gunn announced the project. A major reason behind it was Gunn’s decision to replace Henry Cavill for a fresh face.

Things sort of died down when David Corenswet was announced as the new face of Clark Kent due to his apparent similarities with the comic book character. Something that was established as pictures of him in the costume started appearing. Now, though, the focus has shifted to another actor Edi Gathegi. Gathegi plays Mr. Terrific in the upcoming movie and was seen in the costume in the recently released trailer.

Unfortunately, some fans started ridiculing his appearance, saying that it allegedly lacked the luster of the superhero. Other fans, however, were quick to call those fans out.

As according to them, he looks pretty much like a carbon copy of the comic book character. It started a fierce debate between the two factions with both parties trying to prove their point by any means possible.

Edi Gathegi, or the rest of the Superman team have not responded to any of it yet. It’ll be interesting to see if he too manages to win over everyone as more details about his role in the movie comes out.

James Gunn stated he is excited for fans to watch Superman

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, James Gunn noted his excitement for the upcoming Superman. His first project since taking over DC Studios, Creature Commandos, started airing last month.

While it has gained massive acclaim, controversies have popped out as well due to some of the content shown. Interestingly, the show also showed glimpses of Superman, Wonder Woman, Starfire, Robyn and more in a difficult battle situation. In fact, it also alluded to the death of Superman in a bleak glimpse of a potential future through Circe.

This has put some fans on edge as the choice of showing his death before his official debut in the new phase seemed questionable to them. Nonetheless, Gunn claimed in the interview that the fans will understand when they watch the Superman movie what makes him so excited about it.

You know, you’ll see when it comes out. You’ve never seen this specific part of Superman’s life.

It will be interesting to see if Superman lives up to the hype it has managed to build over the years. In the meantime, hopefully Edi Gathegi, David Corenswet and the rest of the cast will get a reprieve from hate comments before they get a chance to prove themselves in the movie next year.

Superman is scheduled to release at theaters on July 11th, 2025. Creature Commandos is available to stream on MAX.
