Outer Banks’ on-screen and once-off-screen sweethearts Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline sparked rumors they may have gotten back together in real life this weekend. The couple’s breakup was reported earlier this month; Stokes and Cline dated for a year before ending things, according to People. But now, E! reports that the two are fine spending time together, at the very least. They spent their Thanksgiving weekend in Atlanta, and photos and video came out of their time together.
Cline and Stokes appeared alongside each other in a photo they took with a fan, Leonard Cole, that Cole posted on his Instagram on Nov. 28. “Just ran into my favorite OBX couple … John B and Sarah (Maddie and Chase) Thanks for makin my night! So cool!” he captioned the shot.
Cole spoke to E! about seeing them out: “I had a total fanboy moment. It’s one of my fav shows and I’m a fan of their characters and their time together as a couple. They were absolutely kind and gracious and offered a pic. We had a few laughs and drinks. Their connection was comfortable and casual.”
Cline and Stokes were later captured dancing together at The Distract in a TikTok shared by a fellow club goer that same day.
In early November, multiple sources spoke to People about Stokes and Cline’s split.
“Madelyn and Chase are no longer together,” one insider said. “They were trying to work things out privately but broke up a couple of months ago.”
A second source said at the time, “They are definitely broken up.” Neither Stokes nor Cline addressed the breakup on their social media.
In a February 2021 interview with Us Weekly, Stokes talked about why he and Cline started dating after they filmed season one of Outer Banks.
“At that point in time, we were so anxious about the show and so nervous about constantly screwing up. I think we were all under this sort of strange umbrella of, like, ‘Dear God, we got an opportunity. Let’s not screw it up!’ So, it was just always work-oriented—really until the day we wrapped,” Stokes said. “It wasn’t until after that until we started to kind of get into the lockdown where we were like, ‘Is there something here or am I crazy?’ That’s sort of where it bloomed from there. I think we were just so invested in the work.”
