Rising star Anna Sawai plays a pivotal role in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as Cate Randa. Cate, a Japanese American schoolteacher, stumbles upon a life-altering secret: her missing father has another family in Japan. Sawai played one of the most prominent roles in the series. Thus, if there is a season two, she would surely have been aware of its progress. However, from her recent interview with the AV Club, it seems like Sawai does not have much idea on whether or not the series will make its return to the Monsterverse.

“Do you know if Shōgun or Monarch will return for a second season?”

“Shōgun is supposed to be a limited series, but I don’t know; I don’t have the answers to that. Who knows? I’ve been asking the same question for Monarch as well—and again, I don’t have an answer.” – Anna Sawai replied

The first season of Monarch aired in November 2023 and thus it might be very early for the actors and producers to discuss a second season at this moment. Given the critical praise for the first season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the creators renewed it for another season.

Further, the fans have been asking for a second season ever since the first ended. This anticipation is further fueled by the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which was released on March 29, 2024, in the United States.
