Where was ‘Dune 2′ filmed? The earthly locations of Arrakis and the rest of the movie, revealed

The Denis Villeneuve adaptation of ‘Dune’ made use of a wide variety of locations for its filming, with countries all over the world serving as the backdrops for the film.

The emperor entrusts the Atreides with governing over planet Arrakis, but the Harkonnens have other plans: they are not willing to let another family dominate the territory, much less the spice trade. In ‘Dune Part 2′, the second installment of Denis Villaneuve’s film, desert sands become even more important, as Paul escapes the massacre and survives with the Fremen under the scorching sun.

These are the main locations of ‘Dune Part 2′

One of the new locations is the Liwa Oasis, a place that was not only an inspiration for the film, but was also used for filming. Located in Abu Dhabi, a country that has served to capture the aridity and beauty of the desert. “‘I designed all the shoots according to the landscape,” explained Denis Villeneuve. “It influenced the way we shot the movie tremendously.” As in the first installment, the film team filmed in Jordan, also in other new locations in the area, such as Siq, Wadi Rum. The Valley of the Moon in Chile, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was chosen for other sequences.

The part where Princess Irulan appears far from the sands of Arrakis was recorded in the Brion Tomb, in Italy. The curious thing is that it is the first time that filming has been allowed in that location. They had always said no, but the family read Frank Herbert’s book and enjoyed Denis Villenueve’s film. On the other hand, House Atreides lived on the planet Caladan: in this case, the location was on the Norwegian coast of Drage, on the island of Kinn.

‘Dune Part 2′ is now available in theaters. The adaptation has involved some sacrifices, such asremoval of one of the key characters in the novels. Likewise, the video game Dune Awakening has revealed numerous details.
