Unlike Dune and Dune 2, Dune: Awakening Makes One Big Change to the Established Frank Herbert Lore

That doesn’t seems like a small worm. Definitely not.

After receiving rave reviews from journalists across the globe for the latest movie, the Dune franchise, created by Frank Herbert, sees a bright future ahead. Next in line is the game developed by Funcom, a Norwegian company specializing in online games, called Dune: Awakening.

Unlike the movies or the original novel, it won’t be central to Paul Atreides. Players will have their own character who is likely to cross paths with the franchise’s central characters.

The title was teased last year with a character familiar to the world fans have come across in the movies. Given that it is a survival game, it will include a base-building element. Moreover, there has been no release date announced by the company, but players expect it to arrive next year.

There Will Be Worms

Sandworms are some important creatures in Dune.Sandworms are incredibly important creatures in Dune.
In the latest gameplay showcase, players got the gist of what to expect from the title when it finally arrives. The player will explore the open world of Arrakis, a fictional desert planet in the series. However, users were quick to point out that the developer’s take on one of the major features of the game is different from both Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two.

Among the glaringly obvious aspects of the franchise are the giant tank-eating worms whom Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides tried riding in the movies. He appears to have mastered the art. The same cannot be said in the case of the character that appears in the game’s trailer.

The official game account answered the query put forth by the user regarding the worm size. It says,
We have different kinds of sandworms in the game. The ones you see in our trailer, are the small worms. Once you venture into the deep desert, you will find the ring mouth worms you see in the movie.
Moreover, the game’s account also created a mystery around whether the vehicles in the game attract worms, when it responded with, “Do they“.

Dune: Awakening Might Share Themes Showcased in the Movies

Storms of Arrakis weren't included in the movies. The Storms of Arrakis were not included in the movies.
According to Joel Bylos, the game may not include one feature pivotal to the franchise, sandwalking. In a recent interview, he explained that it was initially included, but had been cut due to how ridiculous it looked.

However, the war for Melange, or as it is known in the franchise, the Spice, will be there similar to the central themes showcased in its film adaptation. In addition, the game will see the great storms of Arrakis, a feature never before explored in a survival game.

Those already waiting for the next installment of the movie adaptation can explore the game and learn more about the universe Frank Herbert invisioned in the 20th century.

Do you think the game’s themes will resemble that of the movies? Let us know what you think in the comments.
