Episode 14 of The Big Bang Theory Season 7, The Convention Conundrum, follows the lead group of friends on a mission to secure Comic-Con tickets. As the rest of the group struggles to get the tickets, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) decides to organize his own Comic Con convention.

During his efforts to persuade celebrities to attend his event, Sheldon unexpectedly encounters James Earl Jones at a sushi restaurant. They spend the night together engaging in various activities, including ringing Carrie Fisher’s doorbell and fleeing the scene.

The scene is followed by Fisher opening the door holding a baseball bat, only to find nobody there. It is widely interpreted as a playful nod to the fact that Jones and Fisher had never met in real life until then. Despite not sharing any on-screen moments in the show, their meeting occurred during the filming of this episode of The Big Bang Theory.

Journalist Natalie Abrams shared the news on X (Twitter), saying, “James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher had never met until #BigBangTheory.” Upon meeting her on-screen father, Fisher reportedly exclaimed, “Dad!” The episode has since become a fan favorite with the notable appearances of esteemed stars like Fisher and Earl Jones.

And Earl Jones enjoyed his time working with the cast of the hit sitcom, as he shared in a behind-the-scenes interview, “It was a big thrill for me.” In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, he admitted that although he does not fully understand the “nerd world,” he still expressed his fondness for the cast of The Big Bang Theory.
“I mean, the actors and the company of actors, and what’s written for them is always very crisp and sharp, and stays in the focus of a kind of a nerd world, you know, which my son is in, but I don’t understand at all.”

The show’s cast also shared their excitement for having the opportunity to work with the actor. Jim Parsons said, “It’s pretty insane just to have James Earl Jones around at all.” Kaley Cuoco, who portrayed Penny in the series said that she was amazed to hear the voice of Darth Vedar at the table read, stating that it’s “incredible” and “absolutely mind-blowing” having the actor on the show.
