“She has to be n-ked”: Margot Robbie Refused to Wear a Bathrobe Despite Martin Scorsese’s Advice in The Wolf of Wall Street

Despite Martin Scorsese urging her to wear a robe, Margot Robbie decided to go full n-de for one of the most iconic moments in the acclaimed crime comedy.

"She has to be n-ked": Margot Robbie Refused to Wear a Bathrobe Despite Martin Scorsese's Advice in The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street was a revelation for Leonardo DiCaprio, as the actor branched into a territory he never engaged in before and excelled with flying colors. But while it was DiCaprio, who took center stage in Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece, one of the very best the crime comedy genre has to offer, Margot Robbie, who was 22 at the time, wasn’t overshadowed by him.

In recent years, Robbie has cemented herself as arguably one of the biggest names in showbiz, whose filmography keeps on witnessing acclaimed additions, with Barbie being the recent one. And it was The Wolf of Wall Street that kickstarted her ascend to the top, for which the actor refused to wear a bathrobe during one of the most iconic scenes in the film.

It Was Margot Robbie’s Idea to Go Full N-de for the Iconic Doorway Scene

Initially, for the scene that witnessed Naomi seducing Belfrot by appearing completely n-ked at the doorway, wearing nothing but thigh-high stockings, Martin Scorsese told Robbie she could wear a robe. However, Margot Robbie refused and decided to get full n-ked, as playing it in any other way wouldn’t have done justice to the story they were telling. She told The Telegraph:
“The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world. So when Marty was trying to help me out, and said in the scene where she seduces Jordan perhaps I could have a robe on, I said she wouldn’t. She has to be n-ked. She’s laying her cards on the table.”
But while Margot Robbie was brave to take the difficult call in order to ensure the scene landed perfectly, she had her fears, as the actor had to lie to her parents.

Margot Robbie Kept on Lying to Her Parents About the N-Dity in the Film

During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (via THR), Margot Robbie opened up about lying to her parents prior to the release of The Wolf of Wall Street. The acclaimed actor recalled lying to her parents, stating there was no n-dity in The Wolf of Wall Street, asking them not to believe the reports that tell otherwise. But when the film eventually approached its release, Robbie’s lie further evolved, as she told her parents that it was all CGI.
“I just flat out lied to my family for a really long time. I said, ‘I don’t care what you hear, there is no nudity, I’m not doing any nudity. Ignore anything anyone’s saying, there is no nudity’. And then I thought, ‘Well, the movie’s going to come out and they’ll see there’s nudity’, so I changed that. The lie evolved to, ‘Well actually it’s a body double, and they just CGI-ed my head onto someone else’.

While the film might not be appropriate for her parents, The Wolf of Wall Street stands as a testament to Robbie’s prowess as an actor, who didn’t lose her foot despite going up against the greats.

The Wolf of Wall Street is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
