The actress had previously mentioned that she would like to revisit the relationship between Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker in an indie film.

Actress Kristen Dunst is all set to return to the big screen with Alex Garland’s dystopian war drama Civil War. The actress has been making the rounds on the Internet due to her honest and matter-of-fact tone of answering questions during the press tour, where she has been lauded for having these qualities that are rarely seen during interviews.

Dunst gained worldwide fame for her role as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. She shared screen space with Tobey Maguire, who played Peter Parker a.k.a Spider-Man in the acclaimed trilogy. While fans are excited for another Spider-Man film from Raimi and Maguire ever since their return to the MCU, Dunst reportedly opined that good things need to be left alone.

For many, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man films were the defining iteration of the character in live-action. While Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland have gained fans because of their own unique depiction of Peter Parker, Maguire’s films remain the OG. His appearance, along with Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home, was one of the best moments of the film.

Apart from Maguire and director Sam Raimi, actress Kirsten Dunst was an important part of the films. Playing Peter Parker’s primary love interest Mary Jane Watson, Dunst appeared in all three films and also reportedly wanted to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to British GQ, Dunst mentioned that she would have joined the film, but she was not asked.

With rumors being spread about Sam Raimi’s canceled Spider-Man 4 being revived again, Kirsten Dunst was asked whether she would like to return to the role again. The Bring It On star spoke to IndieWire about returning to the blockbuster franchise,

“It would depend. I don’t know. Honestly, do we need it?… It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?”

Sam Raimi has mentioned that he is not yet working on the four-quel, also saying that he was not sure whether Marvel would allow him to work on the film while they still had Tom Holland’s films in the works (via CBR)

Many fans were not happy with Kirsten Dunst’s comments about leaving the Spider-Man trilogy alone instead of ruining it with another stab at the canceled fourth film.

Despite her reluctance to go back to something precious like the Spider-Man trilogy, Dunst was reportedly still interested in going back to the superhero genre. She mentioned to British GQ that she would be up for another film because it pays a lot of money. When told that people usually do not give such blunt answers, she said,

“They don’t? Really? That’s the reason people do those movies!”

She also mentioned that she would have loved to go back to her character with Tobey Maguire and give an indie treatment to their relationships. She mentioned that she would love to do a different kind of superhero film, referring to Josh Trank’s Chronicle.
