“Maybe I was being more of an imposter back then”: Courteney Cox Gets Brutally Honest About the Ugly Side of Her Journey With FRIENDS

Famously known for her appearance on the NBC sitcom FRIENDS, Courteney Cox who played Monica Geller in the show, recently touched upon aging as she moves closer to her 60s. Embracing her age with confidence, the actress revealed at Marie Claire’s Power Play event in Santa Monica, Calif., how she gained courage and ambition with age.

Meanwhile, as Courteney Cox opens up about her aging, she also gets brutally honest about her journey from FRIENDS. Addressing how she lacked confidence and ambition back then, Cox noted feeling like an imposter in her younger days. While recently opening up about her life choices, the actress also admitted suffering from “insecurity” during her youth.

Courteney Cox Embraced Her Age With Confidence

Set to turn 60 in June 2024, the Shining Vale star Courteney Cox, recently opened up about age and ambition. Speaking at Marie Claire’s Power Play event (via People) in Santa Monica, Calif., with the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Nikki Ogunnaike, Cox addressed how she gained confidence and ambition with her growing age.
As I’m getting older, I do take more chances and I realize that I just go for things more. I’m more ambitious.”
Admitting how she now values time over anything, Courteney Cox stated that her fear of losing out on time has made her stop worrying about saying “no” to people or things. “I think you value your time and also, you want to do everything you can. At least, that’s the way I feel.” the actress shared.

I think later in life, which is where I am now, if I don’t want to do it, I don’t want to. I’m not mean or short, I just say, ‘I can’t make it. But thank you and please invite me again.’ Because you never know.
Explaining that she is now at a certain point in her life where she gained a lot more confidence than she had in her youth, Courteney Cox opened up about her “people-pleasing” issue. Admitting to having suffered from insecurity and imposter syndrome, during her youth, Cox went brutally honest about her FRIENDS journey.

Courteney Cox Recalled the Ugly Side of Her FRIENDS Journey

As Courteney Cox opened up about her newfound confidence with her age, the Scream alum looked back upon her years, when she suffered from insecurity. Revealing when she was a member of the cast of the global hit FRIENDS, Cox confessed to lacking courage in herself.
There was a time when I was on Friends and I didn’t have enough confidence to go after things that I could have or should have. So maybe I was being more of an imposter back then.
When FRIENDS premiered in 1994, Courteney Cox was on 30. And according to the actress, back then she was battling with insecurity, people-pleasing, and lack of ambition. However, now, Cox admitted to taking more chances and putting more effort into things she wants.

But now, I don’t feel like I am because I take more chances and I do more research and I try harder. I think things may have come easier back then. And now I realize in order to feel great about myself, you have to put the work in — in every way. There’s not one thing that I don’t give a hundred percent now, whereas before I might’ve skated by.”
Further, explaining her ambition in different stages of her life and career, Courteney Cox proceeded to express her love for piano, cooking, tennis, and other things she learned during the lockdown, following the COVID pandemic.
