When The Infinity Saga came to its end in 2019, fans couldn’t help but long to see more of Iron Man, a character played by Robert Downey Jr. That would be the last they would see of Tony Stark – a genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist, and The Man. But that wasn’t the last they would see of the Sherlock Holmes star. RDJ continues to enthrall his fans, giving us blockbusters like Oppenheimer. And his penchant continues, with his new series, The Sympathizer ready to enthrall fans left, right, and center.

Robert Downey Jr. is all set for his role in The Sympathizer, a series by HBO and A24. Also an executive producer on the show, he couldn’t be more excited for the chance to make his mark in a thriller that holds a lot of promise. The seven-part series has been in the works for a few years now putting in the miles to take their fans on a journey for a lifetime.

The Sympathizer, with an ensemble of RDJ, Sandra Oh, Hoa Xuande, Toan Le, and Fred Nguyen, is set in 1975 and revolves around the Vietnam War and a Vietnamese spy Captain (played by Xuande). But word is that it is the 58-year-old who is all set to steal the show.

Robert Downey Jr.’s fans couldn’t contain their excitement after taking a peek at the trailer of the HBO series. The Oppenheimer star can be seen in four avatars in the trailer, with each generating a lot of interest in the hearts of the fans. And RDJ knows that better than anyone.

Downey has been excited about this one for quite some time now. He is not done after all, as he said,

“I got a couple other tricks up my sleeve. It wasn’t particularly subtle, it wasn’t meant to be, but I’m already proud of what I’ve seen.” (People)

Even his wife, and producing partner, Susan, can’t get enough of herself. She added,

“We’re just getting started. We talk about it all the time. There’s so many more things we want to do together and achieve together and play together, create together.”

And they’re not kidding.

Robert Downey Jr. is leaving no stone unturned to make this movie a grand success, including letting go of all his hair, as his kids can be seen shaving his head for the upcoming thriller. He captioned the post,

“The things we do for our work… and our kids. #Sympathizer set ready.” (Instagram) 

Preparing for playing four different roles was not an easy task. But expect him to do all that with panache. While dressing in tourist garb and a sun hat, he said,

“Let’s get down, let’s get funky!” 

We’ll get to see the fruits of his labor in no time, as the series is all set to air on 14th April 2024.
