Dave Bautista wishes he could have shared the screen with Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya in Dune: Part Two

“It wasn’t meant to be”: Dave Bautista Has 1 Major Regret in Dune 2 That Denis Villeneuve is Partly Responsible for Despite Many Creative Liberties

Dave Bautista has excelled in his acting career, to say the least. He is one of those entertainers who made a switch from bodybuilding/WWE to acting and absolutely nailed it. From Drax, the Destroyer in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy to Scott Ward in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, he has portrayed some memorable characters in his acting career spanning nearly two decades.

With the sandworms of Dune 2 taking over the big screens, many cinephiles would have seen Bautista’s character in the movie. In an interview, he reflected on how a major regret of his regarding this same thing.

Dave Bautista‘s first project with Denis Villeneuve was Blade Runner 2049, in which he starred as the memorable character of Sapper Morton. Although the movie turned out to be a commercial bomb, it earned great critical acclaim as it won two Academy Awards out of the five it was nominated for.

The adaption of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic novel series Dune was the next project that the Smallville actor worked in with Denis Villeneuve. His screen time as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen was notably less in the first movie, but that changed in the second movie. Even so, his interaction with the rest of the characters of the film is limited.

In an interview with io9, the actor reflected on how he has a bond with the rest of the cast. He also revealed the one major regret he has, saying:
“I want scenes with Timmy [Chalamet]. I want scenes and Zendaya. I want scenes with Florence [Pugh]. I want a scene with Christopher Walken. But it just, you know, it wasn’t meant to be.”
The Wrong Side of Town actor has one scene with Josh Brolin in the movie. Denis Villeneuve has made plenty of alterations to the movie’s storyline which does not match Herbert’s novel, so he could have added scenes in which Rabban Harkonnen shared the screen with Timothee Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan) and Christopher Walken (Shaddam IV).

Dave Bautista Does Not Mind Rabban Harkonnen Being Dumb

Bautista with his buffed-up appearance and tattoo-covered body certainly does not look like a person who has no idea of what he is doing. However, the character of Rabban Harkonnen in the Dune film series is the polar opposite as he remains blissfully unaware of the powerful Fremen force while taking over the planet of Arrakis for his family.

The Knock at the Cabin star does not mind that his Rabban is an idiot at times. If anything, he loves it. He told io9:
“Because I want to play characters that are layered and interesting, and not clichés or generic. That’s also the challenge. But I also think that’s my obsession. So that’s what I loved about him.”
Dave Bautista claimed that he did not want to be stuck in one lane as WWE stars often tend to only get roles in action movies.

Dune 2 is in cinemas now.
