Is Yoda In Star Wars: The Acolyte?

Yoda is one of the Jedi Order’s oldest living members. So, where was he during the time of the High Republic, and will he show up in The Acolyte?

Star Wars: The Acolyte takes place in the High Republic era – as one of the Jedi Order’s oldest living members, will Yoda appear in the show? Star Wars: The High Republic is set a few centuries before the events of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The Acolyte will take place at the tail end of this era, roughly 100 years before Anakin Skywalker is discovered on Tatooine in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. As such, most of the characters introduced in the High Republic were previously unknown – Yoda is one of the few who has crossed over between these Star Wars eras.

It was confirmed by the Star Wars Timelines reference guide that Yoda was born in 896 BBY (BBY stands for Before the Battle of Yavin, when the destruction of the first Death Star occurred) and that he began training Jedi 100 years later. This means that Yoda was an active and high-ranking member of the Jedi Order throughout the entire High Republic eraThe High Republic’s storytelling has even confirmed that Yoda was a Grand Master in 232 BBY. Given the emerging threat of the dark side in The Acolyte, it would certainly make sense for him to be present in the show.

Yoda Hasn’t Been Confirmed To Appear In The Acolyte

Despite Yoda’s status during the High Republic era, it hasn’t been confirmed that his character will appear in The Acolyte. This might be because Star Wars simply wants to keep it a secret – those entirely unfamiliar with the High Republic era will undoubtedly be pleasantly surprised if Yoda were to suddenly appear in one of the show’s episodes. However, it’s important to note that the High Republic was known as the “Golden Age” of the Jedi. The Jedi numbered in their thousands, scattered across the galaxy. Yoda may simply be too far away from the action taking place in The Acolyte to make an appearance.

The Acolyte Teases Other Jedi Taking On Yoda’s Roles

The first official trailer for The Acolyte implies that other Jedi will be taking on some of Yoda’s most well-known roles within the Jedi Order during the show. Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master Sol, for instance, is seen training a group of younglings in the trailer, which is normally one of Yoda’s many primary duties. In some of The High Republic’s stories, Yoda is often said to be traveling the galaxy, either on his own, or sometimes with small groups of younglings and Padawans, opting to take a break from the Jedi Council and train more inexperienced Jedi in the field.

Though Yoda’s appearance in The Acolyte would make sense, it would also risk shifting focus away from the new characters in the show. And, if the Sith, or some other dark side user, is trying to remain hidden in the shadows, they’d likely be willing to do anything to avoid the wrath of the Jedi Council and the Order’s strongest and wisest members – Yoda included. Perhaps Yoda will never know what happened in The Acolyte. There are tens of thousands of Jedi during this time, after all. It might be time to meet a few new ones when Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres.

The Acolyte will premiere on June 4 exclusively on Disney+.
